That's like taking a porn star to prom.

Yeah, I'm a very seasoned shooter and my Ruger Alaskan has been fired 2 times. Just enough to know that I can hit a bear sized target at 20 yards...... IMO a porn star would be a great prom date...... no guesswork. ?

What about the Smith & Wesson Model 500? It was entertaining watching a petite woman (the instructor picked her) fire this gun during my handgun safety class.

You know, the 500 has a lot of thump, but to me it felt more like a single action .41 mag. It wasn't as bad as I anticipated. The .460 is (to me) a bit worse then the 500. BFR makes a single action .444 Marlin pistol that I'd like to wrap my paws around. Then again, I am not petite... 6'4" 329lbs........ I have seen a few forehead scars from the 500. ?

A single trigger pull equals nine rounds of 9mm and those rounds are accurately going farther too.

 average 12 gauge has

0 ("aught") = 9x.32 caliber balls

00 ("double-aught") = 8 .33 caliber balls

000 ("triple-aught") = 6x.36 caliber balls

0000 ("quadruple-aught") = 5x.38 caliber balls

9mm is just a hair smaller than a .38, so the best one can get for firing the equivalent of 9mm rounds is with the quad aught and 5 equivalent balls the same diameter of 9mm

personally, i like 00 buck.

something i recently ran across, thought some in this forum might be interested in it:

445_Muzzle_Gauge.jpg

Brown's .30 Cal. Muzzle Gauge is a precision tool for checking muzzle wear. It was specifically developed for the M1 Garand and M14 rifle, but can be used in any .30 caliber firearm. This is a precision gauge, not one of those simulated "bullet test" types being offered by others. It is made from hardened tool steel right here in the USA!

site specializes in us military semi auto rifles, custom national match, tactical and standard service rifles.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Close. The 9mm is .355 diameter which is, as you say, a hair smaller than what we call a .38 but what we call a .38 is really .357.

000 would be better match to the 9mm or ".38" in diameter in diameter.

When the .38 COLT cartridge came out it used an outside lubricated .38 diameter "heeled" bullet, like a .22 rimfire uses. It was actually .380 diameter. The .38 Special which developed from that case used an inside lubricated .357 diameter bullet but they kept the name ".38" just to confuse us.

The M-60 is my favorite man-portable machine gun. Technically it's a "crew served weapon" but one dude can handle it just fine. After carrying it for several years I got to the point where I could wield it like an M-16. Nothing like shoulder firing a belt-fed.

The 9mm is .355 diameter

So like I said, when I pull the trigger on my 12ga, there are nine 9mm bullets heading toward an attacker.

Knives but I can also be your HuckleBerry

Cool..... a fellow pig-man. I got rather attatched to the beast as well, but it was sort of a love/hate relationship. The SOB loved to tear the heads off of cases.....grrrrr :bonk:

Uh, yeah. That's what you said.

Some years ago there was one of those articles where they did the theoretical testing of buckshot, kind of like the old .38 vs 9mm comparisons they did every three months but with buckshot.

At that time they determined that number 4 buckshot delivered more energy with sufficient penetration at "household ranges" I have kept my home defense shotgun so loaded ever since. No practical experience to report thus yet.

Buckshot loads have changed no doubt, though I still have the same shells in the gun I bought at that time.

In my younger days I used to call coyotes on the ranch late a night for fun on hot summer nights when sleeping was not too practical. This was a problem with Dad and Grandad who were adverse to me shooting centerfire rifles in the dark in cattle pastures. (grown ups...what are you to do with them?) So we settled on using number 4 buckshot as a compromise. It was not likely to be dangerous to steers beyond the range of my light. Killed the coyotes dead at 30-40 yards. Pretty good stuff. In east Texas they used to use buckshot for deer hunting, it was mandated in some counties, and 00 buck worked good at those Piney Woods ranges...so I am told.
