I also had asked this question, because packet 3 only comes with form #1. I thought this was another way for the Consulate to screw us over in applying for the social security number. However, as was mentioned before, form #2 is filled out at the interview!

12-15-04 > I-129F packet mailed (Day 1)

02-03-05 > APPROVED!!! NOA 2 (Day 50)

02-18-05 > Embassy receives petition (Day 65)

02-17-06 > (YEP 1 YEAR, NO TYPO) Packet 3 received (Day 429)

03-14-06 > Interview Date...VISA APPROVED!! (Day 454)

03-16-06 > Fiancee received visa in hand and we arrived in the USA!!

04-29-06 > Wedding Date

AOS & EAD

05-30-06 > Sent AOS and EAD

06-01-06 > Package signed for in Chicago

06-07-06 > NOA

Clarification: K-1 applicants may NOT apply for a Social Security number on form DS-230 II. That program is only available to Immigrant Visa applicants.

I don't think the Consulate is trying to screw you over.

meauxna from my understanding, A fiancé visa is technically a nonimmigrant visa, however the process is similar to that of an immigrant visa. The Immigrant Visa Unit of each U.S. Embassy handles the interviews. Thus, I don't see why the DS230 page 2, would not apply to a K-1.

I understand the IV vs NIV classification and the use of the forms, but the SSA program is not yet extended to anyone other than Immigrant Visa holders.

From the VJ Guide:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...custom&page=ssn

On the visa application Form DS-230 (expires 7/31/2007), you saw the following offer:

"Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN (and issue a card) or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)? You must answer "Yes" to this question and to the "Consent To Disclosure" in order to receive an SSN and/or card."

Please note that this program is ONLY for Immigrant Visa holders (CR-1, etc). If you checked this box, a Social Security number will NOT be generated for you if you are a K-visa holder. As a K-visa holder, use the following guide to get your first, or replacement, Social Security number/card. If you have ever had a Social Security number, that is your number for life; you will need to visit your SSA office to get new card with the same number.

--------------------------------

You can also look for posts from mdyoung with the internal SSA documents that clarify this.

I do encourage you to look at the specifics for a K-1 and how to apply for a Social Security number. There is a specific window of opportunity for the K-1 to get a SS# before their EAD or AOS completes.
