I placed a service request on 3/21/12 since it has been 7 months since NOA1. Today, I received an email that says,

"Type of service requested:

-- Outside Normal Processing Times

The status of this service request is:

A check of USCIS records indicates that this case is currently under extensive background check. You should receive a notice of action* within six months.

*A notice of action may be in a form of Approval Notice, Denial Notice, Transfer Notice, Request for Evidence, Notice of Intent to Deny or Notice of Intent to Revoke.

If you have any further questions, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

Please remember: By law, every person who is not a U.S. citizen and who is over the age of 14 must submit Form AR-11 AND notify this office of their change of address, within 10 days from when they move (persons in "A" or "G" nonimmigrant status are exempt from this requirement). To notify this office of a move, visit our website at: www.uscis.gov or call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283. The Form AR-11 can be downloaded from our website or you can call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283 and we can order one for you. Instructions for filing the Form AR-11, including mailing instructions, are included on the Form.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services"

Did anyone else get a service request that states extensive background check? Is it because I have been fingerprinted?? I had to do that for nursing license. Why are we special, we are just like anybody else. I'm a nobody. It seems this is a standard letter but 6 months???

What about the Freedom of Information ACT? Would having a lawyer be beneficial to get further answers? HELP, anyone have 2 cents?

Well the letter is your information. Something in your case alerted them and you need to find out what.

You need to ask specific questions to a tier 2 immigration officer not the front who know nothing. They are contract customer service people who answer the phones and read from a script.

You should ask :

1.. I am out of normal processing times what is my status currently ? mention the letter

2. Is my case in administrative processing for name and background checks ? Find out specifically if you can what is it. A name check, marriage, divorce?

3. Is there anything else the AO ( Adjudicating Officer ) need from us at this stage ?

Being specific in questions and exact feedback word for word is needed to make further analysis here. Hope this helps. You may want to after your call than start calling your state reps and congress people to get them involved. Sometimes they can get more information out. But you try first and see. God bless.

Hey. I dont think a lawyer can do anything to speed the process. I also know that it can not be because u have been fingerprinted. Iam in Law Enforcement and have been fingerprinted but that did not delay and neither was I in extensive background check. It could be anything. Contact ur congressman and see if they can get more info out of USCIS in reference to ur case. Wish I could be more helpful. Good luck

OK, thanks so far. I already contacted Kay Hagan's office and I just sent her an email with message forwarded and left voicemail. I only spoke to a Tier one person on the phone who is less than helpful. I am going to call back and ask questions such as those given to me above. I asked her some of them on the phone but of course, nothing......dial tone :)

Why can't this be easier than this? She said, it has to be done so the US knows he's not a threat...I replied, "kinda like all the zillions of illegal people that are here already?"

Way to be proactive. Kick those doors down until they have you on speed dial. You'll get results or a reason. Keep us posted.

Well, the day is done and I did everything I set out to do but am no further ahead. With the service request and >7 months, what does anyone think the chances of things being a little faster? Anyone have experience? How long has it taken some of you who got this to get the NOA2? Just wonder if there is a ball park (some form of hope cuz I don't have any right now). Thanks.
