Hello all, me and my husband decided that it would be best to cancel the I-130 that is currently in process and reapply at a later date overseas since that is where we both are at the moment. I was told that all I should do is send a letter to the office that is currently processing my case and wait for a reply. However, it's been over a month and I have not received any news from this office and because it is processing at a local office and not a service center, there's no possible way for me to contact them via phone or email. Does anyone have any experience in this situation? How long did it take for you to receive a response? Thank you for taking the time to read my post and hopefully comment :)

It has taken up to 3 months for it to be cancelled. If possible, can you send a cert. letter to them. Something showing a signature that they received your withdraw letter. Once they do cancel your petition, they will send you a confirmation letter of the withdraw of your petition.

Just wondering, how much later are you talking about?

Once the approved petition reaches NVC you have up to a year to begin NVC processing.

If you're talking about anything less than 2 years time why not just let the petition process?

An approved 130 never has an expired date, so why cancel. Just don't finish up the NVC portion until you are ready. There is nothing for you'll to do at this time unless there is false information on the 130 that you'll do not wish for USCIS to use for an approval.
