Hello everyone, my first time here. I am in the process of collating my documents to start with my petition for K1 visa. Do I need to produce all my 3 previous marriage certificates copy or just the divorce decree? I am planning to get the services of a company to help me with the filling up and filing of forms. Did you file it yourself? Was it easy? I appreciate any information you can share. Thank you and God bless you all!

You want divorce decrees. Make sure these are the final ones that have been recorded at the court where the divorce happened and show that (usually a stamp that is date with the court number/county/state). Make sure that if name changes occurred in the marriage, the divorce decree has the correct names (before the divorce/after the divorce as applicable). Make sure the names in your petition matches what is in the decree.

you also need to show the progression of name changes from birth to petition. if that occurred on a marriage certificate you need them as well

YMMV

When we filed our I129F, both my fiance and I included divorce decrees only.

I do have copies of my marriage certificates which I will file when I get to the consulate stage.

I have found this site extremely helpful in being able to go through this process ourselves and

getting the paperwork completed so far.

Good luck to you! :)

I agree. Though I have to say that all I had were the final court decree documents signed by the judge/all parties. I sent those in and had no problems. Subsequently, in anticipation of a RFE (after reading about the RFEs generated for documents like what I had submitted), I contacted the various states' department of vital records and obtained certified copies of the divorce decrees. I didn't get any RFEs, but as one senior VJ member pointed out....those certified copies of the divorce decrees may come in handy further along this visa journey.

Good luck.

Finally filed our 1-129F petition with the help of this site. VJ is really a big help to those who are new on the process. You cant find step by step detailed instructions in any other site but here only. Kudos to all the members who are giving all their support to help each and everyone here. And to add, i followed the advise to "do it yourself" by following the guide here which are clear and complete. Am very happy i found this site. Saves me money and worries.
