US cell phone in France - will my texting still work?

Quick question for the folks from France. Will texting still work while I am travelling in Paris with my US cell phone?(already know data doesn't work and I don't plan to roam and call :) )

USCIS STAGE: 16 days No expedite request but USC residing abroad
NVC STAGE: 19 days from case # to case complete
03/27/12: interview at Paris embassy - APPROVED
04/12/12: POE San Diego

ROC
01/15/14: sent I-751 application

05/14/14: received card production notification by e-mail, approval date 05/13

Naturalization

02/01/24: N-400 submitted online; Biometrics reuse notice received immediately online; "case being actively reviewed" after a couple hours

02/09/24: received NOA1 by mail

02/10/24: received biometrics reuse notice by mail

04/08/24: interview scheduled for 05/14. Received "We have taken an action in your case" email.

05/14/24: approved at interview, same-day oath ceremony in San Francisco 🥳 🇺🇸

 

Passport

06/10/24: application submitted at post office for passport book and card, paid for expedited processing and shipping

06/24/24: received email notification that passport was approved, then shipped with tracking number

May I ask what your phone is?

I have an IPhone 3GS and it worked fine in the US, it connected to AT&T, so I suppose a US IPhone would work in France too (unless locked for international use).

CR1 Visa

Iphone4 with Verizon. Not sure about the locked part.

Hmmm, that link mostly refers to calling or data , which I do not plan to do. Any other thoughts on whether 'just texting' will work? It doesn't require the SIM card I don;t think.

I know I am not from France, but when I traveled there in 2009, I called my phone company to have it activated for me to text and use my phone, so you might want to try that.

Well yes you need an active SIM card to text: to send and receive texts you need to be connected to a phone network, and the network won't detect you if you don't have a SIM card. I know Iphone texting is a little different, but since you don't plan on using data, texts will have to go through regular phone connection.

Technically, the Iphone4 should work, but you need to check with Verizon if it's locked for use abroad or not.
