Medical Examination and Visa Expiration

We have 2 questions with regards to the Medical Examination and Visa Expiration.

For background, we received Packet 3 last March 15, 2012 (filing date March 2, 2012). We already scheduled our interview on May 17th. Faxed the DS230 today 03/19

1. Can we schedule the Medical examination now or we should we wait until our case number is already in the embassy website (for the confirmation of the interview date?

2. We are planning to leave Korea next year March 2013 and base on our research the validity of the visa is 6 months after the date of issuance. Did we filed our petition too early? or we inform the embassy of our plans to leave the country by March 2013 (is this possible?)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

My Answer: You probably should do the medical as soon as possible once you have your case number and interview date. Just in case there are any issues (sputum test for TB). The medical is valid for 6 months so you're within limits.

My Answer: Your petition is good for one year, so after asking and verifying with the US Embassy and USCIS, you may wish to postpone the medical and reschedule the interview later in the year to give your 6 month good visa time to be good when you leave Korea in March 2013. Please research this further as I've been known to be wrong but you can slow down the process here some to help your situation. Best of luck!!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Good Luck

Bob makes a very valid point about your medical and interview. Simple math says your visa will expire long before March 2013.

It's far easier to reschedule an interview than to get an expired visa reissued.

At this late stage of the process -- you should have your case number.
