Hello All,

Question: When someone states "original document" what exactly does that mean? Lets take the Fiance Letter of Intent as an example. Does she need to write this letter and then sign the letter (blue or black ink) and then mail it to me? Can she scan the document and email it to me? What are the limitations. Thanks for any input on this topic =)

Welcome to the forum.

If you used the format of the example I-129F cover letter from the Forum Example Forms, you should be good to go. The last statement in the cover letter, contains the same verbage as the old INS Form FC-029 Statement of Photocopies. All original documents should be made available to the CO at the interview.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Ok gotcha - so I need to start over then correct if I used scanned copies of the documents? I have used all of the example letters and documents from this website (except ones that were out of date - I downloaded the latest copies). She used the example letter "Fiance Letter of intent", signed the document and then scanned the document and email it to me. This is not acceptable? Just want to make sure that everything should be sent snail mail if we are currently appart. I am not familiar with how long it takes to send documents between the USA and China. I assume it takes a fairly long time? Are there fast ways to send documents internationally or I assume that varies from country to country. Thanks for the help =)

Also - I am at the very begging of this process starting with the petition. Do only original documents need to be presented at the interview? Can I continue with my scanned documents for the first part and make sure she has the ALL original copies for the interview process?

I see - this is the verb-age used in the cover letter:

Copies of documents submitted are exact photocopies of unaltered documents and I understand that I may be required to submit original documents to an Immigration or Consular officer at a later date.

This will cover me until for the I-129F process correct?

That is what I have done. I made my second trip to see my lady last month. I delivered to her, her copy of my I-129F petition and supporting documentation. I also gave her any originals I had for her use at her GUZ interview. I plan on meeting her in Beijing and accompanying her to the GUZ interview (hopefully in a couple more months.... ). At that time I will have prepared the I-130 Affidavits of Support (originals only). I will give her those documents and any others (all originals and copies) that she may requested of by the CO. The stickler is getting your fiancee the original I-130 documents. I would imagine that others have used FedEx, UPS or DHL courier services to deliver originals. I am kind of wary of using snail mail, due to potential chain-of-custody issues.

Hopefully other members will post their experiences.

Good luck.

LOL - gotcha.

If someone else can post their experiences with the verbage in the cover letter it would be much appreciated.

Yes I-134. I understand what you mean. I will most likely have to snail mail my original documents to her after the NOA2 and the process starts to take shape on in China. Wow talk about pressure! What if the originals get lost or hung up in the mail system! We would have to start the entire process all over again correct?

I would use express mail/courier services, i.e., FedEx, UPS, DHL, before I would use the snail mail services, i.e., USPS, China Post.

I am of the understanding that DOS (NVC) uses DHL to get the packets to the various consulates.

Gotcha! Yes - you are correct. That is actually what I meant =) I am sure other people have mailed their Fiances the originals for this process and it has worked so that is what I will have to do =)

USPS has very good international express service. You will pay the premium rate for it though. ie $30+

I am going to give this thread one friendly bump to see if anyone else will share their stories associated with the I-129f package

Did you use ALL original documents signed and mailed to your by your Fiance or given to you in person?

Or

Did you have your Fiance print the documentation, sign the documents (black or blue ink), and then scan them in and send them to you via email?

I realize we need all original documents presented at the interview process. I will mail them to her =)

Thanks again for the replies =)

I would not be so concerned about USPS as I would China Post. I understand that GUZ is starting to use China Post for domestic delivery, operative word is starting.

BTW, it is likely that none of the international services have cut-rate bargains on their rates. ;)

Thanks for the response =) I am not worried about the fee to send the documents. I will pay for whatever is the safest express service I can get. My fiance normally gets mail sent to her via DHL at her residence in China so I think I will go ahead and do that =)
