Hi, everyone! I just filed for N-400 (citizenship) today, but still worried about the status of my state tax. I had no way of knowing that my husband failed to file the 2010 state taxes until we got a mail from Ca. state. We filed it immediately and got a respond from them approving us for payments. Had anybody got the same problem before but still passed the citizenship?

Your reply is highly appreciated.

Since you have now filed and have payment arrangements you will be fine.

Tossed our state taxes in with our federal, wife mentioned that to her IO, was told, I DON'T WANT TO SEE THOSE! Yes, caps is yelling, wife said her IO did yell at her. Our state taxes also had those joint labels, so I thought that would be good further evidence, but her IO sure wanted to see a worthless joint utility bill. Go figure.

I was asked at my interview if I owe any taxes (might have been Federal taxes, I'm not sure) - I don't, so I said "No".

In your case (OP), I would say something like "Yes, and I am paying them though a payment arrangement"

If they ask for more information you would need to be honest, but that fact that the taxes were filed and you are paying should not cause any problems.

Hi! Thanks for the reply. Now I feel better.

We never failed to file the federal. Some said the IOs don't really care for the state. I hope it's true.
