Getting started when you have no US family or employer!

Hi,

It may be here somewhere but this amazing website has me confused already!

Me and my family are all UK citizens but wish to start a new life in the US... I am currently employed but won't be moving with my employer...

Most of the visa routes I can find need you to have a US family member or a sponsoring employer...

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start and what my chances are of just applying on my own?

Also whether it would be better for me to apply on my own and then apply for my family if I get in or apply as a family?

Thanks in adavnmace for any help

Andrew

I don't think you can even apply on your own. There is no such Visa type that allows you just to come to US and leave here. There are an option of the DIV Lottery (Green Card Lottery) however not sure if your country is elligible for that. You can check it on US Department of State website for the eligibility and requirements. Other than that, there is pretty much nothing you can do. Or you can try to find an employer who will want to sponsor you.

Family based immigration and employment based immigration are the two most common ways to immigrate to the US. Without these paths, your chances of immigrating to the US is pretty close to zero.

As UK citizens, your family do not qualify for the Diversity Visa.

You cannot simply apply to come to the US, otherwise lots of the 6 billion people frim all over the world would apply to come to the US.

If you have $500,000 to invest in the US, you could pursue an investment visa.

You are going to have to give us a bit of a clue, job and family are by far the most common:

Have a read and let us know which one appeals/you qualify for.
