Just to make sure I am living alone with no childern so to meet the requirements I must have an income over 18,912 or must have a income 125% more than 18,912 ? I am just being extra cautious than usual

At K-1 visa I-134 you need 100%, at Adjustment of status I-864 you need 125%. (though people here recommend the 125% at i-134 as a buffer). Or get co-sponsor who makes this, ie, single person would need to cover family of 3 or married parents would need cover themselves + any more dependents + you two. In addition to income, they also consider other things such as assets or education... but you would have to make your case.

A co-sponsor needs to show income to qualify based on their household size plus the intending immigrant - not both the USC and intending immigrant.

The case for 100% or 125% of the poverty guideline comes down to the fact that if you can't qualify at 125% for the I-134, how will you for the I-864? Adjusting status requires this just a few months later.

You can adjust using the same co-sponsor as for the visa, right?

Sure, if the same co-sponsor signs the I-864 at the time of AOS.

Do the Same Income Requirements Apply to Form I-134 as Apply to Form I-864?

No. The 125 percent of the federal poverty guideline minimum income requirement, the most recent year's tax return, and other requirements only apply when Form I-864 is needed. Applicants presenting Form I-134 will need to show that their U.S. sponsor's income is 100 percent of the federal poverty guideline.

Well, suppose you fiancee is loaded, and brings money, or has a skill and gets a job...? It's just not so black and white to all cases. I agree if you apply at 100% level, you better be prepared to present and defend your plan at interview... but maybe you do not want to unload your bank account to the USC until you arrive in the USA. There are many different situations. Why do they offer the I-134, as opposed to going straight to I-864?

I heard somewhere that they are switching to the I-864 for all visas... not sure where though.

Yup that is what the embassies do, they use the same guideline as for the I-864, makes sense considering that within a few months you will have to meet those requirements anyway.

100% is a fantasy number... not the reality.
