The KEV number will not be given till after you received NOA2. Then you can call NVC and get the number.

Right now you can check progress "if it ever updates" on USCIS site with receipt number from NOA1. Should start with 3 letters.

to be very honest after it moved to kiev it moved so fast. we had to pick a date we both could make it there. kiev is fast efficient and when they get the package, it is super quick after that, in terms of how long it took u to get to keiv

In our case, by the time I received the notice the case had been moved to NVC it was already on its way to Kiev. Once you get the NOA2 it moves pretty fast. The only slowdown for Kiev is usually holidays.

I called Kyiv embassy a week later after recieving the KEV number from NVC and they were ready to schedule an appointment in 3 days, the only hold I had was the police certificate, as we should've gove thru expedite but didn't. We couldn't imagine that interview could be scheduled that fast.

when the petition is approved and sent to NVC you will get a letter from NVC with the KEV number. Just like the case number from USCIS there is no way to track your case with that number. You can use it to make a medical exam appoitnment and to reference the case when speaking to the consulate, but there is no tracking system throughout this process other than a very unreliable and general one. The KEV number is not for the purpose of tracking.
