The passport photo is supposed to be 2x2 inches. You can scan it and use a site like this to get it the correct size: http://www.epassportphoto.com/

yea its not 2x2, its pretty much the size of the picture on your passport... will this be ok?

The size of a US passport photo IS 2x2 inches. I cannot tell you it will be ok to send the passport photo if it is not the correct size. It could slip by and be fine, or the adjudicator could send an RFE for a photo that meets the requirement of being 2x2 inches. I have no way of knowing this. I would just personally include a passport photo that is the correct, stated size. The site I listed above is free to use. Here are the photo requirements: http://travel.state.gov/visa/visaphotoreq/visaphotoreq_5334.html and http://travel.state.gov/visa/visaphotoreq/photocomptemplate/photocomptemplate_5330.html

It won't be okay to send smaller picture. Whatever they required, you must provide exactly " AS IT IS ". Even you do not get RFE, but you would require the correct format photo at the time of interview. Better to send what they need rather than taking the risk of RFE.

Or 50mmx50mm (metric standard)

There is also a "make your own passport photo" tool somewhere on the travel.state.gov website (if I remember correctly), but I'd just invest that little bit for extra insurance against an RFE and future prints. You should be able to get the digital copy so that you can print what you need now, and print some later for the medical and interview (they're good for about 6 months I believe). You should be able to put them on a blu tooth device or a jump drive.

If you do get a digital copy, specify to the photo center that it is for a passport photo and that you need a copy of the digital file PLUS the prints with passport dimensions. It will cost about $10 - $20 at CVS or Walgreens.

As stated from the site I posted above for the photo requirements: "Photo must be 2 inches by 2 inches." That is approx. 50mm x 50mm. Also from the requirements site I posted above: "2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size."

There is no reason he cannot scan the photo and use the free site I posted above to get a 2x2 inch passport photo to use. Unless he has no printer, of course.

They use a cropping tool software to make sure the photo complies with the government standards. It is no different than at Walgreens, where they take your pic with a digital camera in front of a white screen, put it on their computer and use the software to crop and print them. Nothing wrong with using the ones from Walgreens or from the e-passportphoto site. One is just free.

There is a cutter for the picture itself! What don't you understand. A pre-set 2x2 exact cut is better than a human's steady hand. Anyway, do whatever you like. I had the USPS office turn my pictures down for my passport because of their cut and some type of small shadow in the picture, and those were done at a pharmacy. So, I had to pay for them again at the post office because of this small mistake.

I had to have more done at a different pharmacy later for my fiancee, but those were fine.

People have used these and been fine. What don't you understand? You told him to pay to have them done at a pharmacy, then turned around and said the ones you had done at a pharmacy were rejected for a shadow and bad cut. (with their special cutter tool!)

I have a paper cutter, but I am sure a ruler and an x-acto knife would do just fine. Hmm, even a steady careful hand with some sharp scissors.

I have no idea what your problem is or why you are so worked up about doing the passport photos at a site online for free. If you don't like the idea, then you do not have to use the site. It was a suggestion to the OP on how to fix his passport photo dilemma. He doesn't have to go that route either, if he doesn't want to. I put it out there as a viable option for him and his situation.

I went to a different pharmacy the second time. Plus, I got a refund for the rejected pictures. Let them do whatever.

My wife's photos were taken in Vietnam at a local photo shop. They were 1.5" x 2.5" on a pale blue background - not at all according to US passport standards. They were accepted by USCIS.

My photos were taken at a UPS store. They used an ancient Polaroid double-lens camera specifically made for taking passport photos. The UPS store employee cut them out by hand with a pair of scissors. They were accepted by USCIS.

You're not applying for a passport here. USCIS just wants a photo they can scan into their computer system for the electronic file, and something the adjudicator can use as a reference when looking at your photo evidence.
