Packet 3 question...

I have seen a couple of forum questions about packet 3 but if i'm honest i'm still really confused  so i thought id post a new one and hopefully help others too who read it.

We received our NOA2 about 3-4 weeks ago and i had my letter from the American embassy in London the day before i flew out to visit my fiance for two weeks, and i got back today :( I have already got my police certificate, and will be seeing my GP soon regarding vaccinations and my fiance is sorting the evidence for his affidavit of support etc. But what comes next??

Do i now send the DS-230 part 1, DS-156K x2, DS-156k, DS-157 x2 and checklist DS-2001 off to the embassy as soon as we've completed them??? or am i waiting for them to send me more paperwork?

Do i send the forms then schedule my medical or do i send the forms and wait for them to tell me to schedule my medical? Im so confused about what comes next and feel like the more i read the more im confusing myself and stressing myself out so if someone can put it in plain English for me i would reeeeally appreciate it!

We also have the issue of my fiance is in the army and is on deployment until the end of June, we are worried that if it all goes through as hoped and happens quickly we may not be ready for me to move as he may still be in Kuwait?! If all goes well and you are granted a visa at the interview how long are you given before you have to move over and is that time deducted from your 90 days?

Any help anyone can give i am very grateful for!! :help:

Usually when your application reaches the embassy it is the embassy who sends you the packet 3 which contains all the documents that the specific embassy requires. there is also a checklist which you send back that informs them you are ready to proceed. Then the packet 4 is sent out, which is basically your interview date. Once you have your interview, and are approved, you then have 6 months to arrive in the US. AFTER you arrive, your 90 days to get married kicks in.

this is a great thread for UK members...

http://www.visajourn..._1#entry5138437

fill in all the forms... DS-230 part 1, DS-156K x2, DS-156k, DS-157 x2 and checklist DS-2001 and mail them all to the embassy apart from DS-2001... you can do this right now.

once you have seen your doctor about vaccinations you can book your medical... there is very little wait time between calling them and an available date so you will be able to almost pick a time and date to suit you. you could have the vaccinations done at the medical and but it will cost £84 on top of the medical fee.

once you have completed your medical and you have all documents needed for interview like the affidavit of support then mail the DS-2001 and a cover letter to the embassy instructing them that you are ready for interview... then wait for them to give you a date.

once visa is approved you have 6 month to enter the US and then a further 90 days to marry.

edit: you could return the DS-2001 and cover letter to the embassy along with the rest of the forms but if you do that then you need to make sure that you will have all the required documents in time.

Assuming you have all required information together then yes you send it all out now.

the london embassy has all the step by step guide you need.

http://london.usembassy.gov/kprocessing.html

Once they receive your forms then they will schedule an interview for you.

Regarding your question about time being taken from your 90 days. The 90 day time only begins when you enter the U.S. Also your visa will have a 6 month expiry date on it. This mens you can receive the visa wait 5 months 29 days then enter the country. Then you have a further 90 days to get married. This should offer the flexibility you need.

Agree with everything Dan said.

If you want to get on with the interview and get that visa in hand--

When you send back the ds2001 to let them know you are ready to interview, don't say you plan to marry next summer or they will most likely delay your interview until May. They ask for a cover letter with the DS2001 stating your "email address, if applicable, date of your wedding and date of the medical examination". That's on the website instructions. Pick a date about 6 weeks after your medical. Include the date of your medical for sure. I seriously believe that sending the DS-2001 to hit the embassy around the time the medical results may actually get a faster response because they can see that everything they need is there. I sometimes wonder if the ones who say they are ready at the time of sending in the forms, with no medical date or one weeks off get kinda shuffled to the back and forgotten for a while.

I believe the most efficient for London's business model is this order--

  1. Receive the 4 application forms (no personal documents attached).
  2. Receive the medical results (about 3-4 days after your appointment)
  3. Receive your DS-2001 Readiness for Interview form saying you have everything and the medical is scheduled (or has already happened) by the time they get the cover letter and form.

I know for a fact that if you give a far off wedding date, they will put off your interview if they have others who need to travel sooner. The embassy has told people that when they didn't get an interview letter in a timely manner. So bump up your date if you don't want to wait around. They don't quiz you on your cover letter at the interview. It's a scheduling thing they probably don't even see.

 this is the way i have done it and my medical results will arrive at the embassy probably on the same day as my DS-2001 and cover letter, so its not like im actually losing any time by not sending in the DS-2001 with the rest of the forms anyway.

thats right... just the forms get sent in. you could include a cover letter with your case number on it... it might help in matching up your forms to your case. most people i know used recorded delivery and have had no problem. yeah send the DS-2001 and cover letter once you are ready for interview... i sent mine a couple of days after my medical and it arrived on the same day as my medical results.

if you post any more questions in this thread.... http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/350185-london-2012-k1s-from-noa2-to-interview-thread/ then you will probably get answers quicker and it will also help others with having everything in one place :)
