Hello everyone,

I applied for my citizenship at the end of november 2011 here in Nashville TN.

I filled it through my lawyer and he filled out all the information for me.

Right before christmas i got a receipt notice and a few days later my fingerprint notice.

I went for my fingerprint appointment on january 18th and three days later got my interview/test letter. also they sent a yellow letter to my lawyer.

Here's my Story:

I got my Green Card based on marriage, we lived together for almost 5 years and then, due to my crazy work schedule and lots of traveling , we went apart. but never got divorced.

I applied for my citizenship based on being a permanent resident for over 5 years.

I enlisted in the Army National Guard and was in the delayed entry program. After going to drills for 5 months, I got put on anxiety medication and got discharged with an Y "uncaregorized discharge" for medical reasons. however i never even went to basic training. They never gave me a DD-214 but i have a package explaining my discharge they which they sent me.

___________

Now here's my problem:

On January 10th I moved to a diferent location. Knowing that I had 10 days to update my address, I didn't do it right away.

but on January 13th an officer who identified himself as beinf from USCIS knocked at my old address and spoke with the new tenants. The new tenants said that he asked about me. they replied: He moved! Officer asked, to where? They replied: Downtown nashville. They also said that the officer asked questions like: How long have you known him, how long has he lived here and took notes of it.

As soon as this happened, the tenants called me and I went straight to my lawyer. He thinks i may be under investigation!

Others, told me that sometimes this is precedure! A friend of mine said they also went to her house in PA about a month after she applied for her citizzenship.

My lawyer sent an email to the USCIS office in Memphis and nobody responded.

I went to my firngerprint apointment, nobody said anything. a few days later got my Interview letter...

...NOW I am freaking out about the interview!!!

what could it happen? Has Anyone here ever heard of any case like this?

Do you all think if anything could have gone wrong, They would have came looking for me by now? I updated my address the day that this all happened, and when i went to my firngerptrint appointment , it was already showing in the system.

I can't sleep over this, and the closer i get to my interview date, the more nervous and anxious I get.

Thank you all so much!

I haven't been through this process yet or anything, and someone correct me if im wrong, but i think i read in other forums that it is standard procedure to have completely random home visits from IO when your trying to become a citizen, not everyone gets them but its pretty normal.

Thanks for your words! I just dont understand why they went looking for me. I have a sparkling clean record. Never had a traffic violation, never been arested or involved in any police case. my interview is coming up in just 10 days...

I wish this wasn't happening!!! but I hope and pray that all goes well!

I think you should be in good shape. If they needed anything else from you you would have probably gotten an RFE or something. It's not against the terms of your being here to still be living with your estranged wife. As long as you entered under good faith of trying to have a valid marriage you fufilled you end of bargain as far as the US government is concerend. I think the fact that you guys tried to make it work for 5 years is clear testiment that you came with the correct intensions. I believe you will be fine. Just be honest and try to relax. You havn't done anything wrong. You forgot to send your new address - this is a simple human error. Hopfully whoever is interviewing you / whoever did the investegation can understand this. You have a lawyer and I believe a skilled immigration lawyer should be able to help you with anything they may be asking from you. Good luck!

Moving during the N-400 process is like stepping in front of a train hoping to redirect it without causing a problem.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

President Teddy Roosevelt on Columbus Day 1915
