We picked an "official" wedding date - 01/01/13 :)

Reasoning behind it: 2012 was one of the worst & longest years of my life LOL, and this way we will start 2013 off on the right foot! I'm guessing it will be about 2 weeks after my POE (if we're lucky and I get my passport back quickly). Tom is taking that day off work, and my parents & sister and her family will be down in FL for the Christmas holidays. I have him on a mission to find a venue and someone who will marry us (since it's a holiday it might be a little difficult, but it is a tourist town, so hopefully we'll be okay)

Congratulations to the newly weds :)

Praying for anyone in the North East and in the line of Hurricane Sandy and also those who have travel plans this week. Jason was home at his mother's in Knoxville at the weekend and thankfully his boss called yesterday to tell him the base he works on would be closed today and probably tomorrow so he should just stay in TN. I'm almost thankful I don't head over until next week.

...checking in...law school, as it's wont to do, got rather in the way of my discretionary "worrying about the visa by browsing VJ" time.

Anyway, I'm really sorry for you Mary, I hope it works out; I had sent quite a bit of emails/chats etc. and she had emails from my mother discussing our marriage, etc. and the CO didn't ask for any of it, maybe she was scared of the one inch stack she had with her. So it goes at times **edit**-- I think my general connection to Mongolia helped at that stage (peace corps, intern at embassy, etc.)

"Congrats", as it were, to those of you who have gotten married/met your loved ones, it must feel great. I ought be there in mid-late december.

Going to update all the VJ stuff now..

How are all the east coasters holding up?

Toronto is now heading into what's supposed to be the worst of the weather system for us. Wind is whistling outside my window like crazy, power in my apartment flicked off for a couple of minutes but came back - it's out on the street though, so I'm guessing it will probably go out again at some point through the night. Not looking forward to seeing what happens through the night/tomorrow morning. One person was killed in T.O. so far, by a flying sign due to the high winds.

Knoxville is relatively calm compared to the coastal areas.. we landed at Dulles on Sunday but our onward flight was cancelled. No more flights 'til Tuesday! We rented a car and drove to Knoxville. It wasn't too bad, we were just ahead of hurricane Sandy - but we watched the devastation on the news last night... it's awful :(

The storm is not even comparable here as it is on the east coast, but that hasn't stopped the winds from being very bad here. Lake Michigan is unbelievable right now. The waves are so high, the city has closed off all the bike and running paths right next to it, and the waves are high enough to threaten Lake Shore Drive, which is a major road that runs along the lake. We're just getting the outer rims of the storm. I can't imagine what it was like dealing with it head on.

Yeah, we just got the outskirts of the storm too, and it was pretty bad. I think it must've been worse in my area than in a lot of the other areas of the city, maybe because I'm in a low-lying area, and only a few feet away from Lake Ontario... there were a lot of power outages and trees down, but it was NOTHING like NY, NJ and all the eastern seaboard states, with the footage I've been seeing on TV/twitter.

Wow. What a crazy few days. Received my visa Thursday morning, flew out of vancouver to JFK thursday night. I couldn't do POE because no one was working so we did it when we landed in NY on friday morning. Because i was in a wheel chair we were taken directly to the front of the line. Papers taken, th, fingerprinting done once again then off to secondary. It was simple and pleasant and felt good to hear her say congratulations and welcome. We were married 8 hours later. This storm was insane though. Our home is right on the water of Long Island sound. Never been so scared in all my life. But we are safe and still are one of the few still with power.

Good luck everyone

Terri
