I thought this would be a great place to ask this question.

I was reading a short news story in russian life about how they are trying to extend visitors visas to 3 years instead of the current 30 days.

I talked to a lady at the visa service I use to order my russian visitor visas and she thought they have been working on that for years and to not hold my breath on it changing anytime soon.

Does anyone know if there is any ground made on this issue? I would like it to be easier for me to travel there in the future to visit our family there and enjoy traveling more.

I may get a 1 year m/e business visa through work if this job goes through, but still, I would love a longer visa if possible. couple hundred a pop isnt fun.

Thanks, its nice to have this group here.

They are trying to come to a mutual agreement - Russian visas will be extended to 3 years when Russian citizens will be able to receive 3 year visas to the USA (currently it's a 1 or 2 year visa).

I don't see that happening any time soon, and yes, they've been talking about it for a while, but nothing has happened yet.

I got my first 3 year Russian work visa (and permit) this past year, and it didn't require the full barrage of medical tests as it had in the past.

That won't help many (if any) of you, but it's evidence that restrictions are relaxing in this sense, and hopefully it'll eventually move to include business visas, and then tourist visas.

Our timeline:

01/13/12 - IV Unit in Moscow received approved petition

01/23/12 - We received confirmation that I-130s were approved by USCIS

01/24/12 - We received package notification from post office

01/26/12 - Picked up "package" - notifications from IV Unit with case numbers

01/26/12 - Set interview date online

02/01/12 - Passed medical exams

02/02/12 - Received police record

02/09/12 - Interview... APPROVED!

02/13/12 - Visa delivered

Seven years ago when I applied for a tourist visa they were talking about doing this.
