I was just chatting with my wife in China on QQ & her father had the radio on. She said that the news said starting today if you apply for a visa you don't need to go to Guangzhou for the interview. All people that had filed before today still do need to go. China is +15 hrs so it's 2.14.2012 now. If it is true it's good news for new people just starting out. I just wish that it was for all visa's not approved yet, still sitting with my NOA1 from 8.9.2011 & waitting.

That's only applicable to non-immigrant visas (except K visas) AND only applicable to prior non-immigrant visa holders. Immigrant visa applicants will always require an interview at the IV unit in Guangzhou.

April 29, 2011: Updated
May 3, 2011: Received NOA1 hardcopy in mail
July 26, 2011: Received NOA2 via text/email!!!
July 30, 2011: Received NOA2 hardcopy in mail
August 8, 2011: NVC received file
September 1, 2011: NVC case number assigned
September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

Sometimes my wife can not find the correct words to explane herself to me, she is still learning English. I hope I didn't misslead anyone!! I guess with us waitting so long to hear something about her visa, some kind of news about Visa's was good news even if it didn't affect us.

immigrant visa vs non-immigrant visa. Lets assume all here are chasing an immigrant visa, so this 'news' really should reduce the non-immigrant visa traffic at GUZ . One can hope.

only ppl chasing after a non-immigrant visa. K-1 folks, alas, not fit this category - they still interview at the IV unit in GUZ (solely).

Those chasing after NIV visas (tourist, for example) already know about the other places to interview, homed to a particular Consular District in China.

I was thinking that it would help some people. I think the wife is ready for the interview if we could just get CSC going !!!

Nota Bene: CSC got going, and go-ed very well.

You using EP at NVC, nowish, or no?
