Best way to get your stuff from point ' A' to point ' B' ? Vancouver to Hawaii move planned in the future.

I'm going to sell what I can, give stuff away. Take as little as possible. BUT we all have stuff to move. And it's expensive! blink.gif

If you've done the move, I've described above, (or similar) your advice is appreciated.

By land, sea or air, we all will somehow get there...good.gif

Let me just say 'jealous'! I'm not sure how much you have but have you looked at all thw usual companies? Upak, PODS.com, UPS etc... to even see if they'll move stuff to Hawaii?

The only person I can think of is MrsCat, but she went from Edmonton to Hawaii. Here is one of her posts on it. You may want do an advanced search to see if there are any other tidbits.

I'm sure you could bring a bunch of extra bags. It'd cost a lot of money but you could do it. As for furniture and other big stuff no idea. I know when my friend moved from Vancouver to Sweden they sent their stuff on a ship (her husband's company paid for it). No idea how much that cost but they sent an apartment worth of furniture.

There must be a ton of Hawaii forums on the net where they post advice

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I just did this exact thing a month ago! I found the easiest thing for me was to sell absolutely all that I could and the rest I paid for extra baggage on the flight out here. It cost about $300 for 8 bags on the flight, but it was way cheaper than shipping it.

What part of Hawaii are you moving to?

Kind of worried about the sentimental breakable stuff. Guess that's what "Fragile" stickers are for.

Feb 16/12 - NOA2 Approval (212 days since Priority Date)

Feb 28/12 - NVC Case Number, BIN & IIN Assigned, Optin E-mail for EP Sent

Mar 5/12 - Electronic Processing Opt-in Accepted, AOS Invoiced & Paid
Mar 7/12 - NVC receive IV electronic package, AOS shows "Paid", AOS Package Sent

We'll be in Kailua.

Not married yet... but I feel like a military wife. He's job takes him out to sea for months at a time.
