From the options you gave, It sounds as if you and she will be happier with the civil service, then plan to have your marriage blessed in the church with more people their to enjoy your celebration.

Thats what I'm doing :3 we're going to get married asap after he arrives but then have our big wedding in Sept (will that be ok as I just received my NOA2 a couple days ago and my dad wants to start booking things in the next 10 days!)

My fiancee is super excited about planning the whole wedding, setting dates, ordering this and that. I told her, once my interview is done this coming Feb 22nd, I am pretty sure, time is ours to make all this momentous event possible. I will fly out perhaps around March and help her order this and that, and see if we could both do the planning and stuff, and we are set to be married on April.

Just like everyone else, just make sure you get the visa on hand. Good luck to us all! cheers, bro!

We're only 2 weeks into the visa process but we have already discussed our options and are going along with the 'marriage with two witnesses in a court house followed by the wedding reception later on' option. I know it isn't ideal when you want your marriage/wedding to be the most exciting day of your life, but we are going as far as not even living together until after the wedding reception part. We just don't believe it is practical to wait right up until the last minute (visa in hand) and then rush to get everything ready to take place in that 90-day window. Besides, I want all my family from the UK there on the day when I truly give my life to my fiance, and I want it to be perfect (wedding night included!). We'll be using the time between our marriage and reception to file for all the other necessary parts and maybe (if we're lucky) even start the process of getting my first job in the US!

In the meantime I am gathering bits together in a scrapbook of what I want our wedding reception to look like. I know it isn't the same as actually booking things and having a countdown to a specific wedding date, but you don't want to look back and consider your wedding a rushed affair.

Best wishes for whatever you choose and for the rest of your lives together!

a cautionary tale.

they filed i-129f in dec 2010.

they planned a wedding for may 2011.

they ended up marrying in nov 2011.

needless to say, i think they were... under-informed about planning a wedding while waiting for a k1 visa.

nb: its just silly to request an expedite based on a wedding date.

Visa in hand!!! You really never know when you will get it. We had set a date and started planning for a few months after my interview. However, there was a delay of over 4 months and we had to move the date back twice. Luckily we didn't make too many plans and didn't lose any deposits but if we had of done more planning it would have been disastrous. We finally decided to just wing it and got married a week after I got the visa. It was a small ceremony with very few bells and whistles but it was perfect anyway.

Keep in mind that you do have several months to activate the visa by entering the country and then 90 days before you have to get married. Waiting isn't fun but I guess you get to choose between a well planned elaborate ceremony or less planning but having it sooner.

Well.. altough I agree with most others, we actually planned our wedding even before applying for the Visa. Our wedding date is june 9,2012 and we booked the venue, photographer, catering etc back in July last year (because I was in the States all summer). I will admit I have been a bit worried, however, I believe everything will work out in time! I didnt tell the guests to book flights and hotels yet though ;)

We did the same thing :)

I was in the States in summer 2010 - that's when we started planning everything. We got married in August 2011 - I arrived to the US 2 weeks before the wedding.

But I tell everybody: plan beforehand only if you're ready to move the wedding date if something goes wrong. If you're not ready to do that - wait till the visa is in hand.
