We put together everything for the N400 of my husband, but all we have in the PROOF section is 3 years of tax returns (our copies, not the IRS tax transcript copies)

I guess I can get IRS copies and bring it to the interview if necessary, but as far as mailing in evidence, all we have aside from the marriage certificate is many years of joint returns. We've been married since 2004, he filed for and got green card in 2009, and eligible to file for citizenship this year.

We have separate bank accounts, we live with his parents (house is under his parents name) so no mortgage, etc. Cars are under his name. We have a small business, its under my name as a LLC.

The only thing I have is Geico car insurance which lists us both

any ideas?

Transcripts are better. If you do 1040's, include W-2's, 1099's, and all schedules.

Anything you have that shows you both reside at the same address would be helpful.

ALL you need at the N-400 stage is the tax transcripts or tax returns. Nothing else.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

What, with the three year, no proof that your spouse is a US citizen, was free to marry, and yet another copy of your marriage certificate? Also that you as the applicant was also free to marry.

What you say is true if your read that eligibility supplement at the N-400 site, but nobody told your IO about that. And your IO can even request more evidence not even listed, like a completely worthless joint utility bill.

That's what I thought all along - because I had looked at the N400 form right after I removed conditions. I now know otherwise - after receiving my N400 interview letter. I have stuff to take, but I didn't collect things diligently like I did for removing conditions.

Hi Jupiter, what did your interview letter say to take with you to the interview?

a. PR card, govt issued photo ID, ALL passports & travel dox, both current & expired, issued to you by any govt, not req. but recommended - 2 passport pix.

b. If your current name is diff. than the name on your PR card, bring doc that legally changed your name.

c. If n400 is marriage based, 1)proof of spouse's US for at least past 3 yrs AND 2)current marriage cert AND 3)proof of termination of all previous marriages AND 4)IRS transcripts for the past three years AND 5)proof of marital union as well as proof of residence AND 6)cert copies of birth certs of all your children born in the US.

There's d, e f, g, he etc but those are about trips over 6mths, if you've ever been in the military, child support, et.

If you're short on evidence, do you really NEED to rush into getting his citizenship right now? If you can sit tight for another two years, all of that evidence becomes entirely moot. His greencard is valid for a decade - it's going to be just as green then as it is now. The only things he can't do with his greencard are vote, serve on a jury, and get an American passport. We didn't have the money at the 3 year mark so we waited... and I ended up waiting until 5 years and it magically becomes soooo much simpler overnight!

Karen - Melbourne, Australia/John - Florida, USA

- Proposal (20 August 2000) to marriage (19 December 2004) - 4 years, 3 months, 25 days (1,578 days)

STAGE 1 - Applying for K1 (15 September 2003) to K1 Approval (13 July 2004) - 9 months, 29 days (303 days)

STAGE 2A - Arriving in US (4 Nov 2004) to AOS Application (16 April 2005) - 5 months, 13 days (164 days)

STAGE 2B - Applying for AOS to GC Approval - 9 months, 4 days (279 days)

STAGE 3 - Lifting Conditions. Filing (19 Dec 2007) to Approval (December 11 2008)

STAGE 4 - CITIZENSHIP (filing under 5-year rule - residency start date on green card Jan 11th, 2006)

*N400 filed December 15, 2011

*Interview March 12, 2012

*Oath Ceremony March 23, 2012.

ALL DONE!!!!!!!!

Problem like for is - I didn't know these ANDs until I got my IL, thus I never diligently collected stuff after my ROC. I peaked at the N400 application and thought only my transcripts will suffice. So I am not going to let my application fee go like that cos "am not ready". I will take what I have and the worst that will happen I guess will be being asked to wait for 2 more years and make another application.
