Getting things ready for AOS, AED & AP

So my visa (K-1) is in hand, one way flight is booked (london to vegas!), getting ready to leave in about 6 or 7 weeks time and marriage is scheduled for 3 days later.

We are keen to file for Adjustment of Status, Advanced Employment Authorisation and Advanced Parole as soon as possible after we are married. I know some information can't be completed until I'm there, but does anyone have any advice on things I can start to put together now (whilst I'm still in the UK) so that we're ready to file it ASAP after the marriage?

Much appreciated

J

I think you can pre-fil a few forms out, certainly get them 90% completed (I know we've done stuff even at this stage) but make sure you have copies of things

Hi, I am in the same position. I have my K1 visa and will be flying out in February. What I have done so far to prepare is as follows:

1. Went through the AOS guide in VJ - http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

2. Downloaded all the forms and instructions and completed them where I can.

This has meant that I know what to expect in terms of documentation and evidence. There are some things I need to take with me on my flight so that

I have everything I need when I file for AOS, EAD and AP.

Also I was able to go through other VJ posts to get answers to questions I have.

I also got a couple of extra birth certificates from the General Register Office in case I need them.

Congrats on getting your visa, have a wonderful wedding.

I pretty much had the whole thing together before my fiance arrived and we filed days after the wedding. Most of the forms can be filled out except for a few thing like the arrival flight number/date until you know it. I think it takes a while for Clark County (Las Vegas) to issue the marrige certificate by mail. We got ours the day after the wedding because they will register the marriage and give you the certificate while you wait in our county.

If you didn't get all your shots (at least one when there is a series) recorded on your DS-3025 sheet from Knightsbridge, then you'll have to deal with civil surgeon hassles to get an I-693 form before you can file.

This is the list for AOS that I compiled. It may be helpful to you getting it organized. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FIsgnb7Tfj7tcRNnqRMKUOXQdEfR6HTUDY2vX6zKqqU/edit?hl=en&authkey=CNXN_oQH

Thanks,

Those are the exact responses I was hoping for. Thanks VJer's.

Nich-Nick, the checklist is perfect. Thanks for the advice on the DS-3025, I'll check it when I get home.

Is the I-797 the notice sent to the petitioner or is it the first letter received by the the beneficiary?

It's received by the petitioner saying the I-129F petition was approved by USCIS. According to your timeline, yours was received in September.

Any letters you got from the embassy weren't from USCIS. Embassy and visas are under the Dept of State.

The NOA2 looks like this http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=4&pid=13#top_display_media

Note is says in the text The above petition has been approved hence it's called the approval notice
