Quick question regarding affidavit of support:

My husband is a U.S. soldier and up until our marriage was receiving pay as a single person (duh). He receives increased pay now, but that just started this month. His past 3 tax returns will only reflect his former pay scale and I am concerned that this may require us to get a joint sponsor. His current pay level is more than sufficient to meet the 125% income requirement but that would not be reflected on a income tax statement until the next filing year. Should we be looking for a joint sponsor or is there some other way to document his ability to support me?

Thanks!

Hi, if he is in active duty, then he only needs to meet 100% over the poverty guideline, not 125%.

A respectful nod to your husband for his service.

US soldiers (your husband is obviously classified as active) are not required to meet the 125% guideline, only the 100% guideline. Apply the first column on the form to your case/family situation.

A letter (similar to employment letter) and other evidence of current income (such as pay receipt, etc) will be more than sufficient to have your case processed.

Best of luck to your family
