Hello everyone. Our fiance visa petition was just approved and we were wondering if green card holders are eligible for federal financial aid for school like pell grants and loans. Or does the government consider that as being a public charge going against the affidavit of support I'll have to fill out? Any help is appreciated!

absolutely eligible for loans AFTER green card in hand.

unsure about the pell grant, alas.

however, filing a FAFSA, correctly identifying yer status - the FAFSA portal and the financial aid officer at yer school/uni will set it all straight.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Green card holders can receive federal financial aid for college. Financial aid is not a means tested benefit that impacts the I-864.
