Flights: One way or return?

Hi,

Does anyone have any advice on booking the flight to america after the visa has been received? I only need a one way, but expedia is showing a return as actually being cheaper. Does anyone know why this is? Also, does anyone know of perhaps a better place to buy one-way flights?

If you are looking for an alternative to Expedia, you can try the airline website, Travelicty, or Orbitz.

If you are ultimately unable to find a one-way ticket that is cheaper than a round-trip ticket, you can buy a round-trip ticket and cancel the return portion after arrival in the US.

That is exactly what I did. My wife's R/T ticket was 450$ cheaper that 1 way. I challenge anyone to logically explain that.......

try www.skyscanner.ie they usually find the cheapest connections. You buy through the agency but this way I saved a lot of money when flying to america you might be lucky

Two reasons:

1. On a round trip flight you're paying more totally although less each way. The transportation company--airline, railroad, bus--has more of your money so can afford to give you a discount; when you're spending more, the profit for the company is increased so you participate in the wealth.

2. Booking flights and seats is one of the trickiest parts of transport. With a round trip, there is less left to chance. It is less likely that a flight, for instance, will be overbooked or insufficiently filled, both of which cost the transportation company (airline) money.

i was lucky and had enough airmiles saved from previous trips to US so I used them for a one way flight didnt cost me a penny. Good Luck

purchase the cheapest one even if it's a round trip, when you arrive in the us a week or two you can cancel the return trip.get a conformation of that it was cancelled.

Return flights are always cheaper for some reason! You'll be fine, just cancel it after you get here.

We got super cheap 1 way tickets (cheaper than round trip) from http://www.lastminute.com

Book a return if that's cheaper, set the return date to some months out in the future or play around with the dates. If the return ticket isn't being used, don't forget to cancel it. That way you're certain it won't have a negative effect. One way or return, the one that's cheapest go for it. Congrats on the approval I used momondo.com and cheapoair.com
