Hello

I have a 10 year green card and will be getting ready to apply for citizenship in March. I want to change my last name to my husband's last name.

Can you please let me know how I can do that and how it will affect the citizenship process. My green card has my maiden name on it.

Take your marriage certificate to the DMV for a new license and the social security office for a new card. When you apply for citizenship submit your new last name and the marriage cert.

when you apply for citizenship you can change your first and last name to what ever you want. there is a line for doing the name change, its like you get to be born again with any name you want.

Part I(D) of the N-400 application. Then they ask you about it at your interview. If you still want to do it at that point, it is my understanding that, if you pass your interview, the name change is done at the oath ceremony. Those doing a name change have to go to a federal district court for the oath as the USCIS cannot do a name change. So those doing a name change have to wait for an oath date at their local district court. Our district court (EDVA) does naturalization oath ceremonies on every 3rd Thursday. Others not doing a name change can just do their oath at normal USCIS facilities.
