here's a flowchart for you: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

Shows the estimated timeline for various "stops" during the proces.

They are *only* estimates. If you wait until the last minute to sent or gather documents for an interview, then it might take longer. Other times it'll take longer no matter what - things in the mail, many cases at the embassy etc.

Congrats on being engaged : )

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

A K-1 does not stay at the NVC for a month. At most 2 weeks. Ours was there for only 4 days if that. K-1s are only entered into the computer and then sent to the embassy nothing else happens at the NVC stage for them.

Just as a side note to the OP - the K-1 does indeed only take a few days at NVC, but it can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to be received by NVC. Getting NOA2 from USCIS doesn't mean it's being processed at NVC yet. For example, our K-1 went thru CSC and took more than 3 weeks to be forwarded to NVC.

As others have said, the whole process varies dramatically from case to case and service center to service center.

It will take about 7 months, be patient and review the VJ guides, document everything for USCIS. Good Luck. PS both of you review all your paperwork again and again, the goal is no RFE's.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Not for us, and quite a few others. Our NVC stay was nearly 8 weeks. Occasionally K1's are taken out of the usual flow, and subjected to AP. No it doesn't happen to everyone, but it does happen.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Find some others who files just ahead of you and follow their timelines. Then you can have an idea what to expect. Once we filed I would fly to the UK to visit Karen while the process was going on. I told the border agents that we truth, that she is coming to America and I am visiting and helping with the process in the meantime. Never had any troubles.

Don't let the length of the K-1 flowchart frighten you. The process is long, but it is very linear. At any given point you only need to worry about the next one or two steps. Concentrate on those, and you'll be through before you know it!

Have you looked at the requirements for the I-134 and I-864 Affidavits of Support yet? As the US citizen petitioner, you will need to be able to show an annual income of $17000-$18000 per year, or find a cosponsor who can show sufficient income and is willing to sponsor your fiance.

For us, the cosponsor was my mother-in-law, since my wife wasn't working when she filed the I-128F petition.

The cosponsor is going to need to provide 3 years of tax returns, and some fairly personal information about their bank balances. It's fairly invasive, so even though you won't need this stuff until the consulate interview, if you know you'll need a cosponsor, you should start diplomatically feeling out family or friends now.

Good luck!

oh wow, okay. that is helpful. but question, i thought it needed to be 3 recent pay stubs, not 3 years of tax returns! i dont think my mom has them, because i am not working either, but i am in the process of becoming a cna... what can i do?

miles away i can still feel you lay your head down on my embrace

you need to read up on the affidavit of support... especially the income required to meet 125% of the poverty level as it goes up by about 4,000 dollars per person. you and/or a co-sponsor should be ok with the most recent tax return, pay stubs, and a letter from employer stating earnings etc. banking info isnt needed unless using savings to meet the requirements.

I-129F SENT............................................08/15/2011

NOA1 TEXT/EMAIL...................................08/22/2011

NOA2 TEXT/EMAIL. NO RFE.....................01/05/2012

NVC RECEIVED......................................01/21/2012

NVC LEFT...............................................01/24/2012

PACKET 3 RECEIVED..............................02/01/2012

PACKET 3 RETURNED.............................02/04/2012

MEDICAL................................................02/17/2012

DS-2001 MAILED.....................................02/23/2012

PACKET 4 RECEIVED..............................03/02/2012

INTERVIEW............................................03/14/2012 APPROVED

POE ATLANTA.........................................04/03/2012

AOS approved 3/29/13 after almost 10 months of waiting. No RFE's and no interview.

oh! okay so just the most recent tax return, a recent pay stub and a letter should be fine. and yeah, my mom makes enough money, so that isnt too much of a problem
