Anyone know anything about discount airfair for 1st time immigrants?

If so what airlines give this discount? Can you get it online or have to purchase in person?

Usually it's given by travel agents in the Philippines, but has many restrictions and exceptions. If you can do it it'll save you some money.

It's a scam to make you feel like you got a better deal on the flight. I've never seen anyone post a "First time immigrant" airfare that beats the online fares...


Must have info for bringing your Philippine wife/fiancee's child to the US

There is a first time immigrant fare - my wife did receive it.

She booked directly with the Cathay Pacific office in Makati and it was much cheaper than any of what the search engines or TAs offered. Also she was also offered a much lower fare in person than what was quoted to her via the phone.

Be advise that the discount is only given to travelers holding an immigrant visa. Non-immigrant visa holders do not get the discount, so no go to K-1 holders

They are a few airlines & TAs who provide the discount but you have to show your visa at the time of purchase to get the discount.

Depending on your route - you can save a lot.

It doesn't hurt to call both the airline(s) offices in the PI & also the TAs and then compare the fare(s) they quoted with the online fares.

St. Raphael's travel Agency.......read it and weep If you would take note of the OFW and first time immigrant column I'm sure you will agree it's not a misprint. Now getting those rates may be challenging , but they're listing them.

It only applies to immigrants. Note the word "immigrant". K1s are not given this discount because technically K1 is a non-immigrant visa.

Based on our experience, Patty was able to get a one-way non stop ticket from Manila to San Francisco via Philippine Airlines from Virginia Beach Travel & Tours for $624.00 one way. This was with a 1st time immigrant discount. There is now way I could have gotten a ticket that cheap on my own through Philippine Airlines. Again, this is based on our experience. Patty was a K-1 visa holder.

TeapotGirl & to all holding/will be holding a K-1 visa, it do not hurt to call the airline(s) office directly (in the Philippines).

The airlines have deep discount tickets that they do not publish. Remember, the higher they sell the tickets - the more revenue they earn. So by not making them available to the public - the public will buy what they see (buy the higher price tickets). That is common practice by just about ALL the airlines.

Some people (including myself) still buy the higher price tickets because of mileage accrual & upgrades.

The airlines have different coach/economy class tickets and they are priced according to the restrictions, flexibility & status (whether they earn miles or not & are upgradable).

For example, Cathay Pacific have 12 different economy class tickets (actually 13 total - 1 being an award ticket) - that is 12 different price tickets to travel in the same cabin. Seven of them will earn you miles while 4 of the 7 are eligible for upgrades (from economy to business class) - they have more flexibility & less restrictions. The other 5 class tickets (deeper discount tickets) do not earn miles, have more restrictions & are less flexible.

This is not just Cathay but just about ALL the airlines have these kind of tickets - they just don't publish them.

When you become a frequent flyer - you learn a lot (that is if you are paying attention).

Ever wonder why some tickets are sometimes cheaper in the country of departure than outside, for the exact same flight? cheaper/more expensive as you get closer to the departure date? or the flight say completely booked but when you board there are plenty of empty seats?
