How long did you wait to file for the IR-1/CR-1 after getting married?

My fiance and I have been working on the K-1 for months but have recently decided to instead file for the IR-1/CR-1 for a number of reasons.

The top two reasons are we want his parent to attend our wedding. If we were to marry in the U.S. instead of India then there is a high possibility of them not being able to attend due to visa issues.

And we figured that we could always do a wedding ceremony here in the U.S. for my family after he arrives here.

Second, the chances of CR-1 approval for an interracial couple going through India seem to be much more in our favor than the K-1 visa.

My question is how long did all of you IR-1/CR-1 filers wait to file after you were married? Would it look suspicious if we filed right away?

Right now we are planning on getting married in India in the spring of 2012 and would like to file shortly after. It would be nice if I didn't have to spend our first Christmas as a married couple apart!

We took over a year time and we are living together for 3 years, and was busy with some business activities in India, so didnt make rush to file CR-1 ( just after marriage ).

IMHO, I don't think it'll look suspicious to file immediately after marrying, especially if you've been together for a long time and have documentation to show it. We waited about a week and a half.

We've been thru the process before with the K-1, filed last year and made it all the way to the embassy stage but canceled last minute to allow my (now) wife time to finish school and get some things wrapped up. Seems crazy to most people since we could have delayed the petition we already had approved, but we're happy with how things worked out. Married last month here in the US and back in the waiting game.

I filed 2 months and 11 days after my wife and I got married (needed to acquire some necessary documents).

To answer you question, I'll first surmise you have made multiple visits to India to see your fiance, if I'm correct, then it would not look suspicious if you filed right away after you got married.

We filed a month after we got married. We had been together for 8 years and had 2 children already so providing evidence of a bonafide marriage was fairly easy. Sounds like you guys have been together for a while anyway, so should be fine.

We long hesitated between K1 and CR1 visas, so when we got married most of the supporting evidence was collected and the paperwork pretty much ready.

I have no idea if this would matter. Maybe in high fraud countries, it could look more suspicious?

we waited for a year.. we wanted to live together in the ph. but then he had to get back to the US to establish domicile.

We went the CR-1 route as well and filed a month after I got back from India (mid Feb 2011 with a priority date of March 1). I would have filed sooner if I could have and I don't think there is any issue in filing right after the marriage after the correct documents are collected. We got a RFE due to our marriage not being registered, so I would definately advise that you have this done while you are there and it will save you much headache and time later. I am hoping for my wifey to be here in Feb. 2012. All the best to you both.
