Choice of agent DS 3032

Hi everyone!

We just got our NOA1 but we're already starting to gather documents and getting ready for the next step.

I have questions about the choice of agent in ds3032 form: considering that we are now both living together in France, but that this step will most likely happen when Colin has relocated to the US (in January to start a new job), what is the best option? Making him the agent, or choose not to have one and to communicate directly with NVC?

I'll have most of the paperwork needed here in France, and using the shortcuts, I think that you can avoid the long delays usually due to international mail in transit. Am I correct? Is there any other reason that would make it better to designate the USC as the agent?

I'm not familiar yet with the NVC process so correct me if I misunderstood anything!

It is better to make him the agent. Most important thing is that get prepared all doc with you, and NVC stage is not complicated.

Since he would be in state, lets say if there is any RFE, then communication can be faster. Plus you must require to assign an agent, otherwise system wont allow you to pay the IV fee.

What does that mean? That you can't pay it online?

I thought about the RFE thing, that's what makes me hesitate. But since I'll be the one with the extra documentation, I don't know what would be faster really.

NVC will generate IV invoice only once you have assigned an agent in your case.

You know, as per NVC alert, it takes up to 10 days to deliver the letter, then you know what was the wrong. In case if it is an International alert, then I dont know how long it would drag the situation.

Oh so you mean NVC won't generate the bill if you send back your DS3032 checking the "I don't want an agent" box??

OP: You can designate yourself as the agent if you wish to do so. Once you have a case number from the NVC, you can email the DS-3032 to the NVC, this wiki, explains how to do that. In that message, you would designate yourself as the agent.

Furthermore, if the NVC has both email addresses on record (petitioner & beneficiary), they will send correspondence to both of you by email.
