Hi VJers,

I just received this e-mail. Do you know if this is a scam? I had my interview back in July in Montreal and I am still waiting for my passport. I replied to the message asking but my hotmail server sent me an error message.

That is the same website the Vancouver embassy sent me. I just logged into my account, and I do see the "register for courier services."

This just means you need to designate a local pickup point for your passport.

When they send it, you will see a waybill number; you can email that to DHL/Loomis Express and pay a $20 fee to have it delivered to your home.

Good luck - hopefully this means it was ready, and they wanted to ship it, and that's what triggered the message.

Also, the message gave you an error because it was sent from an email box that was not configured to accept incoming mail - hence "do not reply"

You could always contact the embassy at a different address if it would make you feel more comfortable

If you did not register you will not get your passport.

You cannot reply to that email address as it is a DONOTREPLY and it will trash any email you send to it.

Robert & Karen, please be careful where you post replies. This is a Montreal specific question in the Canada forum and there is no contacting Montreal by phone and if you contact by email, chances are you will not get a reply.

The only way to get your Visa from Montreal is to register with DHL, which is exactly what the email is asking the OP to do.

http://usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/ss_country_welcome is the website that we all use to register with DHL and pick a dropoff location for our passports. It is also where we go to schedule our Visa interviews. It is not a scam.

Again, please be careful when replying to embassy specific questions if you do not have experience with the embassy.

To the OP, register with DHL and pick a location where you want to pick up your passport. It will give you a waybill number that you will also be able to check on the CSC website.

Again, please be careful when replying to embassy specific questions if you do not have experience with the embassy.

Plenty of folks try to make a buck with the needs of Embassy customers, some legitimately and some by scamming. I'm not saying this is not one of the legit services, but there is nothing on the page to say that it is the ONLY way to go. Now if the US Department of State tells you to use the site, fine. It would be nice to see some official reference to this private business somewhere.

As for my experiences with Embassies, I used to work in an Embassy as a section Deputy Chief.

Thank you all! You were very fast to answer my question. I am no good with computers.

I called the number in Montreal and it was a legit number. They said that probably my documents have been waiting for me to register... Oh gosh I feel so stupid

This means that I could have been in america earlier... :bonk:

The person on the phone told me that once they pick up my documents I will receive an e-mail but unfortunately he cannot tell me when. He says I can check online on the same website. He also gave me my reference ID, just a number. He said that if I had given that number to the interviewer I could have gotten my documents earlier.

I am so excited!!!!

That's fantastic. But every embassy is different. Montreal's Packet 4 instructs everyone to the website in question. As well, it is asked at the interview if you've registered for DHL and if you haven't, they give you instructions on how to do so and it's to go to that website. It is also listed on the website for Montreal's consulate.

There are official references to this private business and those familiar with Montreal are aware of them and able to help the OP through their experience.

Well it seems legit them with the references from the government. I think they could be a little clearer in the email they send out, otherwise this never would have been a question. The fact they do not allow replies, hmmm. Then again I bet they'd be flooded with questions about things they don't know. They should have a link back to the Embassy instruction page on theirs.

Oh well, no harm done, pays to check twice! Good luck with your journey!

Yes I got the P4 from NVC, but I could not find something on it about this registration with DHL. It only says about a website www.immigrantvisas.state.gov. If they had mentioned the canada.usvisa-info.com website I would have visited it, but they say nothing. Nothing on the P4 on registration. That is so stupid. Did your P4 said about the register?

My husband went to that website www.immigrantvisas.state.gov. and it has a lot of information but we could not find anything about registration.

I reviewed the papers they gave me the day of my interview and in the back of a letter they have the same instructions to register. I think I was too excited that day and I forgot to read that.

I'm confused. Your profile says K1 visa and yet you talk about your husband and P4 from NVC. Did you get a spousal visa instead of a fiance visa?

I refer to him as husband always, but we are not legally married yet. It is a fiance visa. Does it makes a difference? :ot:
