I was looking through my 'Montreal Interview' folder and looking at packet 4 checklist. On the list it says Adoption Decree (s), does this mean for the petitioner also? My fiance was adopted at birth. I was thinking the list was about the benificary but maybe not?

I would think it is just for you but if you can get your hands on the adoption decree I would bring it along. What's one more sheet of paper? Amazing though how little they asked for. Just my original birth/marraige/divorce certificates, and original police clearance. Only thing for my fiance (petitioner) was the l134 and the tax return for 2010.

So if you can't get it before the interview, I wouldn't worry.

Please anyone correct me if you have a different opinion. :)

I could probaby get a copy scanned before I leave for Montreal on Wednesday. He said he would have to ask his parents because they never gave him any documents. He got a birth certificate (with his adopted parents listed) and a passport so it's never been an issue.

Strange... Chad picked up the adoption information from his parents and will scan it to me before I fly out to Montreal on Wednesday. It's not the original but at least it's something if they ask for it.

At the interview they want the beneficiary information not the USC information.I was never asked about my adoption papers not even questioned anything about anything on that. It was never needed. My mom couldn't find the papers she had for me from 20+ years ago. The adoption papers are only for your children, if you adopted your child and your getting a visa for your child, they are not for the adult.

Thanks Inky for backing me up on that. The adoption issue was never brought up throughout the process for me either, but when I was getting ready to interview I couldn't find any for certain information as to whether it was for children or the beneficiary so I took what I had. Funny my papers were from (I hate to say this because it tells my age) 1963. The adoption papers were different back then. But the lawyer fees were what got me....It was a grand total of $67.00, I have the original receipt. Inflation or greed?

I was nervous too... but it truly was the easiest part of the process. You will be proud of yourself when it's done!!

Montreal is a beautiful city with so much to see. The people at the motel you are staying at will be able to tell you of places close by that you can visit. I also went to Montreal alone, it's pretty easy to get around the city. Are you moving to VA? I'm just outside Richmond VA :-) Moved here from NS in May.

$67!!! wow. I wish I could have seen mine, but she couldn't find the papers anywhere and when I tried contacting our estranged father for the papers that did not go well.

I think the price raise is greed lol... because it hasn't gotten any harder to fill out forms since back then hehe.

Yes, I am moving to Midlothian, VA and I am from Newfoundland :-) I will find things to do I am sure!
