I finally sent off my ROC packet Saturday priority mail so it wouldn't get lost. I included :

!.Bank Statements

2. Credit cards in both names

3. Memberships

4. Tax returns

5. Personal mail in both names

6.Joint home ownership

7. Insurance and beneficiary info

8.Photo's

Plus all the required info and cheque

I was slow getting it out as my green card expires Dec.15th 2012 but its still within the time frame so let the waiting begin!

It seems no matter which office you filed at its at least an 8 month wait atm. Last i knew they were working on March at CSC and vermont was a month or two slower :(

April filers at CSC are more than 60% approved. They're about the 6-7 month mark, so average I guess. No May approvals yet though, which is worrisome.

Add me to the list - sent off my RoC paperwork today, along with the usual bank statements, utility bills, DEERS card (showing my hubby as my sponsor), etc.

And I included a letter my hubby got from his command outlining (approx) his upcoming deployment in 2013 - which I hope will suffice, if they decide to call us both for an interview, why he wouldn't be able to attend.

Hello fellow VJer's,

Havent posted on here in a while, anyways my original GC expires in 12/13, just want to get a head start on things for my ROC. Can someone please help me out with some basic questions about the ROC process? How much does it cost/what forms needed/ how early should I apply?

Sorry if this has been posted already.

thanks in advance.

You need to fill out a USCIS Form I-751, put it in an envelope with a stack of supporting evidence, and mail it to USCIS. They need to receive it at least a week or so before your green card expires, but they must not receive it more than 90 days before your green card expires. You will need to include a cheque written to the US Department of Homeland Security for $590.

Full instructions, including the address to send it to, can be found here: http://www.uscis.gov/i-751

If you search in the Removal of Conditions forums, you will find many people's sample evidence lists, and some sample cover letters.

Mine is here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/336576-i-751-cover-letter-and-list/

Your evidence will vary, but a set of similar variety and size should cover all the bases.

Thanks for the info HD, how long does it normally take to get your 10 yr GC? How am I still able to work once my first GC has expired and I'm waiting for my 10 yr one? How long does the process normally take?

Thanks.

Its taking about 6-9 months, sometimes more. When you file, you will receive an NOA which is a letter that extends your status for 1 year while your ROC is in process. So you can continue to work and travel as usual. I suggest you check out the ROC guide on the guides section of the site, it tells you everything you need to file.

Thanks for the help HB, just to make sure the I-751 is the form I use to renew my GC for the first time? I've heard ppl mention you need to file form I-551 to renew your GC? Which is correct?

You're coming from a k-1 visa, just like me. It means it's the i-751 form you need to file out.

If you look at the USCIS website, under "Forms", there isn't actually any such thing as an I-551.

An I-551 is a Green card. I Googled it

You aren't renewing your green card, you are filling to remove conditions on your residency which gets you a 10 year card. When that expires in 10 years if you choose not to become a US citizen, then you would file an I-90 to renew your card.
