Hello UK Vjers, I have a question and any reply will be very appreciated!

I'm just about to start my process and should I request my Police Certificate in the UK now or is to early??

It says on the Uk form that they are good for one year, but the embassy told me they are only good for six months so I would wait if I were you. I applied for mine once I d been waiting for about three months for NOA2. Good luck with your preparations!

It takes about two weeks to get a UK police certificate and according to the US embassy website:

Please note that the Immigrant Visa Unit considers the police certificate valid for 12 months from the date of issuance, not six months as stated on the certificate.

I'd recommend applying about a month or so before you actually need it, to give it the maximum possible lifespan...

The embassy website says they are good for 12 months. The people on the phone are known to give incorrect information. I'd go with the website:

Police Certificates for the United Kingdom: A visa applicant who has resided in the United Kingdom for 6 months or more since the age of 16, is required to obtain a police certificate from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). Further information is available from their website at www.acpo.police.uk . This police certificate will serve to advise the U.S. Embassy, London whether or not any criminal conviction is held against him/her. The police certificate will be sent to the applicant's address provided at the time of application.

Welcome to the UK forum. You'll find a lot of K1 fiances here. Your process will be more like the IR1/CR1 so don't get confused by the specifics for a K1. They process a little differently.

On the police certificate--if you have ever had any run-in with law enforcement, it would be wise to get the certificate sooner rather than later so you can chase down more documentation if it comes back with anything other than "no trace." I mean even teenage mischief 30 years ago that you were given a caution for and you think it is expunged from your record. Now is still early if you haven't even started the petition part yet, but I would order it well before the petition is approved.

If you think there is a chance for ANYTHING to be on your record, request it now to make sure you are good to go. You sure do not want to get one at the last minute then need to go to court to clear up a $50 parking ticket or something.

Thanks again for such amazing help...I have to say that I can't remember EVER having any problem with the law in my entire life after having a such strict Dad has I did.. So I'm the type of citizen that always walk in the line better than face my parents!! Thanks God!! lol.. so nothing to worry!!
