Hey guys,

I just can't sleep, the interview is tom! Lets see what happens...anyway, is there a parking garage close to the consulate? I just don't wanna spend alot of time looking for one? Thanks :)

ALso, I know we can't take cell phones or any other electrocis? What about wallets? Keys too! Are they going to hold on to the car keys! If so, is that risky? Would they give me a recipt or something like a vallet ticket to retriece my stuff?

Thanks for your help adn wish us luck :)

On the day of my interview there was a couple who had electronic car keys and the security guards held on to them. The couple picked them up on their way out. I don't know if they typically do such things or if that security guard was just being particularly nice that day. A wallet should be okay as long as it's not huge and it doesn't contain anything that can be misconstrued as a weapon. I brought a bunch of change and some cards from my wallet in a ziploc baggie. Try to bring only what's absolutely necessary... No toothpicks or dental floss :P No idea about the parking since I walked, sorry.

I think you can take a key if it is just a plain key, but NOT one of those keys with buttons on it. I wouldn't take a wallet if it's bulky, just your money for the payment if you can do that. good luck!

Solution: leave the car keys (and your own/rental car if you have one) at your hotel and metro/walk to Consulate.

(edit: for my own GC case 1999/12/13, I didn't even have a car--just walked and metro'ed around for a week, including to the interview).

2005/07/10 I-129F filed for Pras

2006/05/01 AOS Packet (I-485/I-131/I-765) filed at Chicago

2006/10/13 Pras' I-485 interview--APPROVED!

2006/10/27 Pras' conditional GC arrives -- .5 to go (2 yrs to Conditions Removal)

2008/07/21 I-751 (conditions removal) filed

There are no parking garages. There is only street parking with meters and when I went to my interview and stood in line it was full not a parking space to be had ANYWHERE.

This is Montreal we are talking about. Rarely if ever is there a parking spot and if there is people will fight over it!

Leave the car and everything behind. Walk to the building with your papers for the interview thats all.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

the only parking was for taxis and they are jockeying for position so to speak with each other when i was there. but yes downtown montreal very hard to park. and if you park where you are not allowed be prepared for a ticket or a boot on your wheel. definately agree on walking if yoru hotel is close enough. No electronics of any kind are allowed not even yoru hotel key if its a credit card looking one. no cameras nothing. just you, yourself and your folder of papers. thats it thats all. it is a us federal building and they take this very seriously as well as the scan when you get in.

I brought my hotel card key and my bank and credit cards and it wasn't a problem. I'm not trying to encourage people to bring junk with them though, lol. Everyone's experience is different. If you're not within walking distance then maybe you should take a taxi?

Those are NOT electronic. Its the electronic devices that are huge no-no's, even a those remote car starters. 1 goes through airport like security, xray, pat down, the whole 9 yards! They have no problem turning you away--they security people don't need a visa, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
