So if your fiance needed influenza (live virus) he would have to wait 30 days from the day he got the varicella shot. They will not give you 2 live-virus shots within 30 days of each other in Canada either, and they ask you specifically if you've had any vaccinations in 30 days before they give you the shot.

zinker, its $4600 for everything and vaccines :)

Ncci and zinker--no getting around it at CDJ. They are well known for making you have new vaccinations even if you got them at a private clinic in the recent past--there is only ONE way to do things at CDJ--their way. They are very easy to deal with, but don't try to color outside the lines.

Thanks Nicci and Magical for the input :) I think we'll just bite the bullet and do what we got to do at the Medical (the medical appt left my wife somewhat traumitized the last time around, so hopefully she gets better treatment next time). Good luck to your husband later today, Nicci!

Timeline:

02/04/2004 - A young Zinker arrives in Mexico to study Spanish and the dating game begins

04/??/2005 - I-129F is filed from within the US

06/09/2005 - Zinker moves to Mexico

09/??/2005 - I-129F is approved

10/15/2005 - Interview in Cd. Juarez and subsequently approved for a K1 Visa!..But visa is left in Juarez

10/17/2005 - Due to unexpected pregnancy and a job offer in Mx - we decide not to pursue the visa and it expires :(

01/04/2006 - Married in Mexico

10/09/2011 - Two children later and a comfortable life in Mexico... Preparing to file I-130 in December 2011. Stay Tuned!

Your fiance got a chicken pox vaccine which is a 2-shot series. You get 1 shot, and 4 weeks later you get the second shot. You cannot be given 2 live-virus vaccines in less than 30 days unless you receive 2 *different* live virus vaccines on the same day.

I had to go through a lot of drama getting my vaccines done and learned a lot about how many shots per series (2 for MMR, Varicella) and how much time you need between the 2 shots. It's annoying but that's how you get immunity...

So you're saying that it is possible to get the second round of varicella shots and influenza shot on the same day? I hope that's the case.

Why are you rescheduling the interview? Get the medical and go to the interview - If he gets blue slipped, then he can go back in a month with proof of the shot and then it will be approved -

We got the kids the shots they can get for free in the UK. The rest cost wayyyy too much money, like Varicella, so we waited until they were here in the US where the shots are $10 (6 pounds 30 pence) per shot. Everything the kids needed was a little over 70 pounds. As for my fiance she is set with $220 worth of shots (about 135 pounds) that would have been a LOT more expensive in the UK.

Remember too for the AOS you only need the FIRST shot in the series. It is a good idea to complete the series of course.

My doctor did my flu + last round of varicella at the same time last week.

It was MMR and Varicella I had to get apart. I got Tdap and Varicella at the same time.

human pincushion, wahhhh!!!!

Weird, they told me that I could get MMR and Varicella together... Of course this was AFTER I already had my MMR so I had to wait 2 weeks for Varicella #1, and then 4 weeks for Varicella #2.

You can get Tdap with anything because it isn't a live virus.

We are getting the interview rescheduled.. becaue the doctors office- says they will have our paperwork ready on the 21st just need to come in and get the shots, which he has paid for through the doctors office. The Interview was rescheduled for the 23rd. This way we dont have to get a blue slip and wait a month verses waiting a week and a couple days... seemed like a smarter idea.. less waiting!!!

A lot of Jamaican members have gone to local clinics to get shots done cheaper, but as Ricardo stated you have to do it in the right time frame to have it done that way.good.gif

:( my fiance just went and got his medical today.. and we thought that it would be a good idea to get some of his vaccines done at a local clinic cause it would be cheaper.. even though the embassy told us to only get them done at the medical centers they recommend... well just so everyone knows, we were stupid. Our interview date was for the 14th.

But the embassy medical exam doctors wont give my fiance his last immunization shot till the 21st.. so we have to reschedule... of course we should have know better! But I just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who thought that it could be possible to make a short cut.

Now im in the proccess of changing interview dates.. uugghhh it sucks!! :(

This is consulate specific. In other countries you can get the vaccines at any doctors office. The lesson is to follow the instructions for the particular consulate you are using.

the problem here is not that you took ur vaccines elsewhere(( cos i did that and had no problems). you started too close to your medical appointment. FOLKS CAN STILL SAVE MONEY if they do it right. of course so many of the embassy hospitals now incorporate the vaccines fees in the standard hospital charge so its their DOUBLE GAIN if you get some of them elsewere prior.

Thats very true, and a little heads up for anyone going thru this process in Manila. In Manila when you do your medical, whatever shots you dont have or if you dont have records, they give you the shots at your medical, its included in the medical fee.
