If the NVC has your email address on record, they will send you email correspondence, it's not the same as OPTIN.

Should I OPTIN now? Or does it matter much now that all the docs have been submitted (unless that ask for something else!!).

Man, if you had not sent in ONE of the TWO things (I-864, DS-230), I'd say

GO FOR IT, you could rehome yer casefile to be an EP casefile.

But since it's left NVC, alas, that 'set' is gone.

I've no idea if it's possible to make 'another set' but it's certainly worth a try.

You can call in to NVC on Monday, ask about it, but get a supervisor, and ask that supervisor

if it's possible to get in with an OPT IN to Electronic Processing for a casefile headed to GUZ IV even though the paper casefile has left their office. Explain to them that you made a mistake, and maybe, just maybe, you'll have some result..

but..

be warned, aye?

IF THEY SAY YES, you'll need to be prepping for the DS-261 and NOT the DS-230 - the switch over the DS-261 for EP for GUZ IV started last week (I was sleeping, not paying attention until someone over at chinafamilyvisa.com noted it)

You may or may not have to pay all fees again, but, IMO, it's worth it for the speed you'll get after NVC has tagged you 'case complete'. I pray you made copies of all civil documents, though - you'll need to scan those.

But - call in Monday, see what's up.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I think I'm going to leave well enough alone!!! With my luck,I'll screw something up and it'll take much longer. If I would have just followed simple instructions with OPTIN,we would'nt be in this predicament.Like I said previously,I thought I already did the OPTIN because I was getting email (I'm really not a dork!!!).For grins and giggles,I called DoS and what I thought that our case was received in Guangzhou, only the email was received. The actual "paper files" are sitting somewhere at a Chinese Post Office....I guess!! Hopefully,it'll make it's way to the US Consulate and things will be fine. Now,I have heard that it can be 3-4 mths. before they get it......let's keep our fingers crossed. Thanks a bunch to all who have replied.

NVC has received my I-130 file but, they have not yet assigned a GUZ number. Yes, I call every day. In the meantime, I have drafted an email to OPTIN to EP with a PDF copy of my wife's signed DS-3032 as an attachment. I will send this OPTIN email as soon as I get a GUZ number.

When I send the email, do I even need to attach the DS-3032, or is it too soon?

Update: I emailed Guangzhou on 11/21 and they replied that our case file has been received and Packet IV should be sent out within 2-4 weeks. They could'nt specify a date for the interview ,only said maybe January or February. This is good news although it is taking a little longer than most cases similar to mine. I started this in Jan.11. and I know of a few of my wifes freinds who's children arrived in 8-9 mths from start. Anyhow,it's all good and hopefully the interview process will be smooth.

Update: Actually there is no update! Still nothing from GUZ as of 11/21. This definitely is going against what alot of my friends have said about the timeline when Guz receives the file and who have gone through this process. I call Dos 2-3 times a week and we are pretty much on a first name basis with each other, lol!! Even though Guz said sometime in January/February,I was holding out hope my wifes son could fly back with her on 12/28. Not Happening! It's been nothing but bad luck since my wife's been back in China. Her dad got very sick while she is there and does'nt look good. She will extend her stay until Feb 8th to help her family. Anyhow,We wish everyone out there in visajourney land and very Merry Christmas.

I dunno - the casefile left NVC on 10-14-2011.

It needs at least 2 months before it's released from the bonded China Government Warehouse to the GUZ IV unit, then there's some more processing.

TYPICALLY that wait could range from 1 to 5 months, on a paper case (this is the type you have, btw)

so

The Day after GUZ IV opens the casefile, DOS Hotline will have a record of it. Is useless, really, to try to communicate with GUZ IV until they have received the casefile from the bonded China Government Warehouse; even then, there's a new queue, internal to processing and movement of the casefile at GUZ IV.

Queues abound, alas - yer in limbo for the nonce, until the casefile is actually IN GUZ IV office.

Sorry.

Guangzhou actually received the "paper" file on 11/16 and they told me they put the beneficiaries name on the waiting-list for visa interviews which, as previously stated above, could be in Jan/Feb. It's just a timing thing right now.I want him to be able to come to the States when his mother comes back and get this portion over with and then start the next process of getting my wife's 10 year card. Her 2 year expires on 3/31/12. Anyhow,it's all good...just impatient!!
