Cruising with Extension Letter

For those who have travelled with their extension letter on a cruise, when you had to show your greencard to the ticket counter before boarding, did the cruise terminal crew know what the extension letter was?

I know that when I travel by plane from Canada into the US they ask for my greencard to verify my status. My husband is worried that the staff of cruiseline for our upcoming cruise is not going to understand what the letter is and give me problems boarding.

He's worried because as many of you know, the letter is not worded very specifically. It says that my greencard is extended, but it doesnt't really specify the dates or anything (although there is a date on the letter). We're also cruising out of Tampa, FL, which doesn't not have a customs area and customs officers actually come onto the ship to check all of the non-US citizens documents. We're not so much worried about the border agents as I'm sure they much have some experience with the letter, but we're more worried that the agents that check us in might not understand.

Anyone ever used their extension letter to cruise?

Tens of thousands of people take a cruise from the U.S. every year. You are not the first one doing it with a Green Card which expiration date has been extended, and you need not to worry about this.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I totally agree with you. I'm pretty laid back, but my husband was a bit antsy, so I booked an INFOPASS just to be safe and they stamped my passport for me.

We've done it twice this year with no problems. They usually make a copy of the letter for their records.
