For the petition stage, do the evidence documents need to be translated? I have boarding passes, bills, and the apartment lease contract from when I lived in France with my fiance all in French. I understand that documents need to be translated for the interview, but for the initial K-1 petition part I just wanted to show examples of official forms with both of our names on it, etc. Is that okay?

Please help!

documents need to be translated?

Translations usually applies for official documents like Birth Cert, Divorce decree etc once she is interviewed. For your apartment lease, that definitely need to be translated. If you we're there to study, then translate your school record as well.

Credit Card statement showing your transactions in France is an excellent evidence as well.

You are only submitting copies. So you it is possible to explain on the copy or attach a sheet eplaining what the copy states:

e.g. This is a copy of the lease agreement of the appartment my fiancee and I rented in xxx from xx to xx.

Then highlight the names and the town. No need really to translate all that.

I always highlighted the important stuff and explained what it was. I did not make copies, I scanned the documents into word so I could add an explanation.

Just a thought!

You need to have all official papers (birth certificates, divorce decrees, etc.). I actually got international certificates of everything, they are so much easier to deal with.

Wishing you luck.

I think you should translate them for the USCIS.

But I'm still wondering about the point of having translated documents for the interview. When I got my J1 visa, the CO told me french documents were ok, anyways they speak french and american there...
