So has anyone considered moving to Africa instead of living here in America

I was Born and raised In America. My Parents are Both Nigerian. I often considered living in Nigeria but i do not know what i would do for work in Africa.. Now that my fiance is Nigerian these thoughts are becoming more of a reality.. We often discuss different businesses i could get into but the risk of loss are usually to high for me.. After staying in Lagos for all of September I can really see myself making the move! I just got to figure out how to make cash in Naija! Anyone else ever felt like me? Lets discuss and give tips!

Of cos living in Nigeria is less costly and you ve the opportunity of exploring the market,depending on your field.

You will succeed as long as u dont bring anoda culture mentality in dealing with Nigerians.Nigeria is developing,and it provide a great avenue to wealth,if u look closely.housing,feeding,maintainance etc r extremely cheap except for the cost of running a biz on Generator.i can only hope u ve a desire to bear the lil lost at times,cos in it lies a great gain

Yes I have thought about it. I told my fiance I thought it would be best if he cam here first, got himself situated and then we can consider it. I just want to square up bills and pay off my house. I have money in my retirement so if a good opportunity arises,you better believe I'm leaving the US! If but for one reason, the weather!

No doubt Naija is a tough place to live but if you can adapt you will be fine because many of the amenities(electricity, good roads) we take for granted in the US are not readily available and will take some good money to live comfortably. As someone said Nigeria is a developing country and there are many opportunities to make money there you just need capital and some hones people who can put you through and be ready to hussle. It is not as bad as some people say hyou just have to get advise from good and honest people. Your thinking is in the right place...think about this...can you live in America and hire maids, drivers? Follow your dreams.

You know...I have considered it ...especially when the distance between us had began to take a toll on my emotions. When I was there I know that they have wonderful medical personnell however the standards inwhich they operate the hospitals..(I'm in the medical field) is something that I would be fighting for equality, health care benefits, medicare, medicaid...something to help the people who can not afford to pay cash for medicines. My work would be rewarding but then I have my family here to think about and the money that we would need to survive because you must be ready to live in Nigeria ( mentally and physically) but yea I would go and not look back. Thinking of building a house there anyway.. What are you truly thinking of doing?

We decided to try living here first, and if he didn't like it then we would move back. Both our families are from the same general area in Ghana so moving back would not have been difficult. He had a good job and would have been easily able to support me if I decided to not work so employment was not a huge concern for me.

Also, we both wanted to go back to school (which we are both currently doing) and it just made sense to take the opportunity to do that here rather than there.

We do plan on moving back in a few years though.

Nigeria is not a safe enough place for whites so it is not an option for us at this time. That being said there is a lot of need for "catching up" in the electronic areas , online shopping, something like paypal, web sites for companies.

Funny u say that Nigeria is not a safe place for whites when i saw countless amount of white people in Lagos just last August! As a matter of fact so many White families work at shell and other big corporations in Nigeria.. I was surprised at all the white folk i saw at the palms in Lagos every weekend.. I even took pics lol
