I have applied but my check has not been cashed yet, so can't check my status.

I didn't get the card since I really don't travel much to Canada or Mexico. I applied at an Acceptance Office around the corner from my house. The CoN did arrive properly the same day as the passport with no issues (I was nervous about that). I did register to vote and I also changed my status with Social Security and recommend you do the same. You will be able to check the status within about a week or so.

MirandaVC - where did you apply for your passport? Did you also get your passport card? Did your CoN come back properly in mail? Also, did you register to vote?

I have applied but my check has not been cashed yet, so can't check my status.

I am a citizen!

I went to my mother's oath ceremony yesterday (3-2-12)in Atlanta (mine was scheduled for 3-9-12) and she asked someone if I could do mine too since I was already there. I had brought my letter and GC just in case - which was handy because they said Yes! They took my letter into the back somewhere and found my certificate and came back out with the date on my letter crossed out and March 2, 2012 handwritten in.

It was a nice ceremony - 165 new citizens from 62 countries. It took a couple hours total, most of that was waiting for paperwork to get checked. They didn't let family and guests wait in the same area so they were separated from the new citizens by an entire floor for most of the time. Right before the start of the ceremony, they let the guests come downstairs and into the room and then kicked them out again right after the videos so they could give us our certificates without "chaos." Then they let anyone back into the room for pictures if they wanted.

Very glad that we don't have to go back next week for my oath! It was nice being able to get it done together. Now we just wait for my sister's oath date in Jacksonville, FL

Congratulations Bode! glad to hear you could share this experience of becoming a citizen with your mom. Pretty nice. I changed your timeline to RED font as new U.S. citizen and also updated your oath date. Congrats to your mom and sister as well.

I think it's strange how every IO handles their cases so very differently!

Some people had a very nice, friendly, relaxed interview and an officer saying "I'll approve your petition, you should receive your oath invitation letter shortly" (like myself, but then it took over 53 days for that oath letter to arrive) while others aren't even sure they passed (like @Tatsi) and some others feel like they must have done something wrong, because the IO was outright nasty with them.

oh, BTW, I'm almost at the end of my visa journey now:

Got my new social security card in the mail, registered to vote, got a new unrestricted drivers license, and went to apply for passport (book and card) at the post office today.

Hang in there, everybody, the waiting game is almost over!

Congrats for passing your test/interview. Sorry you got a not very friendly/outgoing IO. Well, it sounds good to me. However, Take a look at your N-652 letter and see what was checked on there, so you have a better idea what was the outcome of your interview. I’m sure you will get your oath letter soon. Keep us posted.
