Hi Everyone:

I found the following on Delta.com's website, and if I am reading it correctly the people that have the older passport can not use them when leaving Nigeria?? I knew they were going to change eventually, but the website always has said "Delayed", now I come across this on Delta's website. :wacko: Has anyone ever come across this before?

- Holders of old style machine readable passports issued to

nationals of Nigeria are permitted to enter Nigeria.

However, these passports are not valid for departure from

Nigeria and should be replaced by a new biometric passport.

I just got back from Nigeria today and yes I had some issues with my passport upon arrival at Lagos. Prior to my travel with this passport I inquired at the Nigerian Consulate in Atlanta and I was told the passport is valid until expiration which is 2015. When I got to Lagos, the officer told me I needed to change it before leaving Nigeria which I refused to do because the passport was issued in Atlanta on February 2010. When I was leaving last night (Oct 2nd) I was told to see another officer who asked if I had another passport of which I did so I was allowed to leave. If you can get a new one please do, because Nigeria is very good at changing things without adequate warning and proper implementation. Good Luck

Wow...thanks for the info...that really sucks, but I'm glad I came across it before my hubby left the country.

Yes the information is correct. He needs to obtain the new ECOWAS passport...it is now required for ANYBODY to leave Nigeria, as previously mentioned above Good life was only able to leave the country because perhaps he/she has an American passport....Good luck and congratulations

May 4th 2011 Received petition Approval letter

May 12th 2011 Received Letter from NVC stating info has been forwarded to Lagos consulate office

July 14th 2011 Received Fiancé Visa packet and interview date (via email)

Sept 20th 2011 Interview day! Visa not approved.. Requesting more proof :-(

Sept 28th 2011 Second interview scheduled for early December :-)

Dec 5th 2011 Interview rescheduled consulate office caught fire :-(

Dec 6th 2011 Visa APPROVED!!!! :-D

How do I know what passport my fiancé has? Do they look different?

I know the one my hubby has now looks like mine (he got it in 2008), but I don't know if the new ones look different.

My other question is if he has to get the new passport, then what about the Visa stamp that is already in the old one? Do they replace it into the new one? Anyone know who/how we can find out for sure?

Hey Naijaboy, I found an image for the epassport here: NEW EPASSPORT PIC

If you notice on this pic of the passport cover there is a little rectangle box with a circle in it on the bottom of the cover. That is the symbol for 'epassport'. I presume the older cover passports don't have that.

Yes I have an American Passport...I went to Nigeria for the CRBA of my newborn daughter and also to gove moral support for her interview on Sept. 28 which went well. She was told to return to the embassy for her visa issuance onnce the CRBA is approved.

My advise will be to inquire with the passport office in Nigeria if they will issue him another one and attached the old to the new one BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES NUST HE LEAVE THE OLD PASSPORT WITH THE VISA ON IT WITH THEM...In Nigeria they can try anything even though the visa will not be useful to them and will likely mess you up and cause unnecessary delay for him.
