Yes works with any cell phone, however it's much better integrated with droid or android therefore more and better functionality.

I am thinking of getting a US prepaid phone (can't get the bill mailed) but will have my wife's name, cell phone number and address on the receipt.

This is one of the objectives we have to show our intent to move to US, along with other stuff like getting a State ID and child registration etc. Will this be enough or do we need to get a 2 year contract with a minimum of $40/mo bill, which is way too expensive and my wife doesn't need more than 50 minutes a month anyway.

how long a phone contract is doesn't matter. Has nothing to do with the process. Its about what you can afford and what you want to get out of the phone.

If your using it as proof its the joint names, same address etc that shows on the bill that is what counts.

T-Mobile has a $5 international unlimited texting plan that you can add and text for as much as you want. Otherwise they charge 10c for each text even if you have unlimited texting.

We have sprint and have the unlimited plan and it costs us about $140 a month for 2 phones. It inculdes unlimited texts (to canada included) unlimited mobile to moblie calls, unlimited week nights and weekends. There are 200 daytime mins (I think) if you are calling landlines. It also includes unlimited data. Texting is also free when I am in Canada and am texting my husband in the US...this is a bit plus.

Does this include data Colleen's? Just curious, since I'm always trying to save a buck! We pay about $210 with Verizon, but that includes data on two phones, $30 each.

Like others said, Verizon doesn't charge extra to text to Canada. They also have a pretty good North American plan, but it was a little pricy.

Wow that's a lot! I've heard Verizon has the most expensive rates.

I'd definitely call around and see if you can switch to AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile depending on what your needs are. I'm on a family plan with my in-laws so I can't really compare since I get a super deal. But I really like T-Mobile. They are worth looking into if you want to save some cash and don't care about the iphone (they have plenty of other nice Android phones).
