EAD reapply if already worked on F-1?

Hi,

I came to the US on an F-1 in 2006, and worked as allowed for my Optional Practical Training (OPT) in 2008 so I have already had a period or work authorization. I'm now getting ready to file for AOS (k-1) and I am not sure whether I should put applying for EAD or re-applying on my application....does it even matter? Does anyone have this situation as well?

You will be getting a new EAD based on your new status, until then you can continue to use your existing EAD till the expiry date on it.

thanks! previous EAD expired OCT 2009, and when I went through POE, one officer said I needed to turn the old card in, but then the other said I could keep it! weird... anyway, thanks for your reply!

I have never heard of ppl returning expired EAD card.

The only thing I would be making sure is not working on the expired EAD.

I'm pretty sure I had to hand over my expired EAD at PoE dont remember at what point in process might have been just a visit while k-1 processing I was also F-1 visa and had EAD for OpT moved back to Canada for a year and a half.

I think when I applied for EAD for AOS I included a copy of previous card and of course what status I was, it didn't speed anything up having a previous one
