Hi everyone,

Since my wife announced she was pregnant to her Filipino coworkers, it's been a popular topic of conversation at break time. The following are things she's been told. Do you have any others or versions of these?

1.) If you crave a certain food but are unable to get it, your baby will have birthmarks that will remind you of that food you couldn't get.

2.) If you look "blooming" when you're pregnant you will have a girl. If you look "tired and simple" you will have a boy.

3.) If you eat dark colored food while you are pregnant your baby will have dark skin.

4.) If you eat twin foods, for example, two bananas growing together as one, you will have twin babies.

5.) If someone gives a pregnant woman food, they should eat some of it first or they will become sleepy.

hypocrit - a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, especially one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.

Pet Peeve for 2011 - supercilious, contemptuous, arrogant, attitudes.

On #5..my wife told me if she fed me her food I would become sleepy.

If her armpit gets dark it will be a boy.

If she steps over you while you are sleeping, you will feel the morning sickness, not her.

There are tons of superstitions. Those are a couple that my wife told me.

BTW, congrats on the pregnancy!

Hi there, Congratulations !:) You put a smile on my face while reading this :) Very funny ! :) These are all Filipinos supertitious beliefs. Well, it may be true to some... but, there is no scientific evidence / research that can prove its veracity. Good luck !

I have never been pregnant yet so I can't really tell, but my sister's did the above to her husband... and he did become sleepy and he was the one who had the morning sickness or what we called "paglilihi" in tagalog... I don't know how to translate that word... but its the time where women craves for food and has morning sickness which is usually associated with the first trimester of pregnancy... it doesn't have any scientific facts... but I saw it happened to my brother in law...

some things told to me: (and a lot I still cannot remember)

Pregnant women:

Sit on a staircase or near a doorway. Prevents a c-section delivery.

Wear necklace. Prevents umbilical cord from entangling around fetus's neck.

Cut her hair. Baby will be born hairless.

It is believed that a woman with a high and pointed stomach carries a boy. Whereas, a low and rounded stomach determines a girl.

When the facial features change of a pregnant woman, it is believed she is carrying a boy. If her features remain the same, it is believed to be a girl.

When pregnant, do not sit with your legs far apart, it prolongs labor.

Give an expectant mother anything she craves for, or she will have a miscarriage.

If a pregnant woman wants to avoid the unpleasant symptoms of pregnancy, she should step over her husband while he's sleeping and all her symptoms will be transferred to him.

don't ever look at the picture of the president,if you want your child to be tall

when you go out at night..you have to wear black halfsleep underneath so that the aswang can't see through your baby.

Drinking a lot of cold beverages= bigger babies and you will have more difficulty in giving birth during normal delivery.

Oil will keep your feet warm and sufficient blood circulation.

If a pregnant woman eats a fruit from a tree, the remaining fruits will turn sour.

A pregnant woman who eats twin bananas will have twins. To prevent this, she must split the twin bananas behind her back.

the gender of the baby certainly affects the aura of the mother. because it is hormonal. when it is a boy, male hormones are abundant, thus, it is apparent that the mother looks a little masculine. while if the baby is a girl, the female hormones are abundant, making the mother looks radiant and pretty.
