I have read, that in order to accomplish the tasks by way of EP, my wife and I both need to be able to use a scan and use a PDF reader. I have the cutePDF writer. My wife has no PDF reader and she is not very tech saavy. I think she knows how to use a scanner and a flash drive but she does not understand PDF readers. Is there a Chinese site that has these available, for free, like we have here like Adobe?

She can download Adobe Reader here - http://get.adobe.com/reader/

...and here is the font pack for simplified chinese - http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4421

I don't think she will have any problem downloading it in China.

The Adobe PDF Reader can handle any language just fine as long as you download and install the proper language packs.

But I would advice AGAINST downloading the Chinese language pack, or any foreign language pack for this matter.

The reason is I am not sure NVC has the proper language pack installed to read foreign text correctly. So if you submit a PDF file to them and it contains Chinese text, it may appear to you to look just the way you expected but on NVC computer they will not be able to see the characters. It helps to detect the problem if you do NOT install the language packs. To make sure your PDF file is always displayed correctly it is best to create images of the Chinese text you intend to put on the PDF file, and insert the images instead of text.

So if I understand your post correctly, if I print this form along with the needed information, rescan it to a new file, and then include it as one of the pages in the overall DS-230 package to be submitted electronically, there is a possibility none of the Chinese text on that form would be readable on the NVC end when that page is viewed??? :o:blink::wacko:

Paper documents scanned into PDF file will be just fine. Because it treats the scanned content as just an image, not text. The catch is scanned PDF files are normally just bulky. To reduce file size you probably wants to use the digitally converted PDF files. For example you fill out the DS-230 and save it to another PDF file.
