Hello everyone, hope all of you are just fine! :) I am still waiting for my envelope from the US embassy in Ro... I have a question, the tax returns should be original or a copy is ok? :help: Thank you for the help!

best you can ever do is a copy.. the "original" is on file with the IRS

Many people file electronically now, so technically there is no "original" copy. All of the data exists only in computers. If the sponsor filed electronically and they choose to submit a copy of their return rather than an IRS transcript then they'd be printing a fresh copy from their computer (or their tax accountant's computer). Consulates usually insist that the 1040 form be signed by the sponsor, and some consulates ask that the signature be notarized. If the consulate's instructions (in packet 4) say to provide a notarized copy of the tax return then the sponsor should sign the form in front of a notary, and provide the original notarized form to the consulate.

This is a lot less complicated if you get a transcript from the IRS.
