Two of the girls jumped up to dance with me and my buddy. The other sat and watched because she had "a procedure" done. A procedure?

Planned Parenthood would be proud.

May we assume the two that jumped up to dance with you and your buddy may have had the same procedure a few weeks later? :P

Unfortunately, there was a stabbing in the restroom (a real stabbing, not a man/woman thing) so we left after that. My buddy didn't understand that stabbings in the restroom are common in TJ and it's no big deal. He was ready to flee back to the land of fat gringos and safe restrooms shortly after that. So, no pinata.

Do not go to Mexico with wussies. The "in" thing to have is a nickle plated M1911 in .38 Super, it is the "go to" gun for Mexico!

Do not go to Mexico with guns, either, or you'll go to a Mexicano prison, ufff man. It's verrrrrrry illegal.

Feel free, however, to go to the business or tourist district of almost any Texas/Mexico border town during daylight hours, while keeping a sensible alertness about one's self.

In every Texas border town to which I've been, the Mexican Army is extremely present and visible. I don't know how they can stand almost stock-still all day, holding machine guns, dressed in FULL camouflage gear and heavy boots, in that blazing sun. Perhaps they're used to it, sweat man. Bless them, though; they're there not just for their own people, but also for us Gringos. If I tried to muster enough Spanish to thank them for their dedication, they'd probably do what all the civilians do -- look alarmed and point me toward the nearest bathroom, sigh man.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

I used to travel to Mexico with guns all the time. Yeah, they take a dim view of handguns, to be sure. I used to bring shotguns for dove hunting. They wanted you to buy your ammunition there and the Mexicans use (I am sure) burro hair for wads as the shells produce a stink that is other worldly, and I am guy that thinks Hoppe's Number 9 is far better a fragrance than Channel Number 5 any day.

We had no trouble bringing in shotguns provided we had a Mexican hunting license which could be bought in Texas. The last time I did this was 1989 and I do not know if it has changed since then. Bringing a handgun at that time was near to impossible (legally but i never once was searched going in) for a normal person and they forbade any handguns in calibers that were or are used by the military, so that rules out the .45 and 9mm, hence the popularity of the .38 Super. As for rifles, I think few Mexicans have ever heard of anything but the AK-47, M-16 or the "Trienta-Trienta" The Sierra Madre Occidental range is a popular place for Gringos to go hunting for Desert Big Horn sheep and Desert Mule deer, among other things, so I know they allow you to import rifles for hunting.

We took along a kind of wussie guy dove hunting with us, ONCE, a Texan that didn't even own a dove gun so I was going to give him loan of a 20 ga. Ruger Red Label. When we went into the shop to buy shells he came out with a case .410's thinking they would "kick less" Sure, I told him, "You will hardly feel it at all as they fall right through the barrel and hit your shoes." The Mexican proprietor had no interest in taking back the over-priced case of .410's so he made them a gift to our host.

We were officially "not there" since neither of us had a pass.

I sure wish I had one of those!

Probably one of those California transplants. Even a Sooner should know the difference between a 20 gauge and a 410.

She also brought a purse to have fixed. One thing America no longer has are people that repair things for reasonable prices. It is cheaper to buy new and throw out the old. It is part of society I think we lost.

We found a couple of shoe repair shops willing to fix purses, luggage, etc. Set up was not that different from Ukraine apparently - you take the item, explain what you need, and they see how close they can get to making it new. Other than some rivets that didn't match exactly, it worked fine.

Thanks  I'm going to tell Mr. ONA that he got a new nickname

All in good fun

Actually he was a native Texican and our company's token Democrat. In Dallas a Democrat is a "token", at least they were at that time.

Most Texans, even if they say they do not have any guns, have a dove gun because that isn't really hunting and it really isn't a gun. It is a social outing and the gun just gets you in.

But this guy didn't know the first thing about guns or hunting and he went along with the other guys from our office to be part of thr group, which he really wasn't anyway.

The wife decided to go "Avatar" at the state fair last week.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

We went and saw Avatar in 3D at the theater when first she got to the states. I'm guessing those face painting booths at the fair must make a small fortune by the amount of people they had waiting in line.
