Well, I don't like when there is a lot of "mat" around me. I mean, I don't mind it when it's to the point, like if somebody's telling a joke, or is being really frustrated - something like that... but when half of what a person says is curse words... One of my friends told me that both me and another foreigner friend of his always have accents in Russian... except when we speak mat. I guess because it's something we both picked up naturally, rather than being taught in class?

My theory is: that might be happening because of your emotional state. Everybody tells me and my friend that we have no accent when we're angry and we yell at somebody in English. I mean... my acent is pretty slight anyway, but I only have chance of having no accent at all when I'm really mad.

Eh, that'd be true if I only used mat when I was mad or stressed, but my Russian is sloppy and very "street" because that's the way my friends are.

If it comes from a book or even a tape set, it's not going to sound right. But, when it's emulated directly from the source, it can be spot-on!

I never had a book besides what we used in class and I never had a tape, but my first teacher was American. I also think being in class with other foreigners and their accents messes you up a bit.

THE PRIEST AND HIS DONKEY

A parish priest who wanted to raise money for his church was told that there was a fortune in horse-racing, so he decided to buy a horse and enter it in a race. However, at the local auction, the going price for horses was so steep that he ended up buying a donkey instead. He figured, however, that since he had it, he might as well go ahead and enter it in the races.

To his surprise, in the first race, his donkey came in third. The next day, the newspaper carried this headline:

PREACHER'S A$$ SHOWS

The priest was so pleased that he entered the donkey in another race. This time, it won, and the paper said:

PREACHER'S A$$ OUT IN FRONT

The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the priest not to enter the donkey in another race. The new headline read:

BISHOP SCRATCHES PREACHER'S A$$

This was too much for the Bishop, and he ordered the priest to get rid of the animal. The priest gave the donkey to a nun in a nearby convent. The headline the next day said:

NUN HAS BEST A$$ IN TOWN

The Bishop fainted. After recovering, he told the nun that she would have to dispose of the donkey. She finally found a farmer who would take it off her hands for $10. The paper said:

NUN PEDDLES A$$ FOR TEN BUCKS

They buried the Bishop the next day, si man.
