The interview fee: $350 USD. I don't know if that's "per applicant" or whatever, someone should be able to chime in. You can pay for it either online or in person on the day of your interview, but BE AWARE if you pay for it in person it MUST be in US cash- no debit, credit, cheques, or Canadian money!

The medicals: Depends on where you're going, it's less for children but will be a couple hundred per person, at least. There are three doctors that do the medicals, one in Montreal, one in Toronto, and one in Vancouver. I recommend checking out the website of the one you'll be using to find out what the fees are.

Don't forgot to make sure your vaccinations are up to date. If you get vaccinnes at the medical exam they'll charge you, when you might've got them for free from your doctor.

Traveling fees, hotel/motel rooms.

Passport style photos.

Personally, I spent a lot of money at Staples making way too many photocopies of everything I had. Haha.

If any important original documents are not in English, you need to get them translated- that'll cost too.

Then of course the cost of moving all your stuff across the border!

Hope this helps.

I have 2 kiddos going through the process with me as well, so I can tell you what I've budgeted.

- Medical for the 3 of us in Toronto = $575

- Interview fees for the 3 of us in Montreal = $1050

- Then, in the US, don't forget the $1000+ for filing the AOS paperwork x3 = $3640

That's all I've got so far, but it seems like plenty to me! I'll be watching this thread to see if there's anything I've missed too.

Good luck!

The K-1 Visa journey for myself and my two K-2 children:

K-1: NOA1 2011-8-10; NOA2 2012-1-12; Interview 2012-4-24; Visa issued 2012-9-17; POE (Sarnia) 2012-9-26; Wedding! 2012-10-02
AOS: NOA1 2012-11-20; Biometrics 2012-12-14; AP/EAD approved 2013-1-11; Interview 2013-1-31; 2-yr Green cards in hand 2013-2-9 (101 days total)

ROC: NOA1 11-7-14; Biometrics 12-1-14; 10-yr Green cards ordered 4-13-15! (157 days total)

Counting down to naturalization time!

Definitely a good idea to read ahead and look at future fees - there have been a few people who seem shocked when they hit Adjustment of Status after the wedding and its $1000+ per person (children don't have a lower fee with a parent) so it can be shocking.

As Pocheros notes - don';t forget hotels&food in Montreal (or Vancouver), travelling fees....moving fees when you're finally approved...the list goes on.

I added it up once ad I think in total I have come to about $4-5 k for my daughter and myself through the AOS stage....and I still have 'Removal of Conditions' and Naturalization to go through at that time.

Ah, I see. Pricey but not unmanageable, especially since it's awhile away and gives you time to save up for it. Well, if it's for one person it's not bad, that is, but bringing a family over is certainly expensive!

Thanks for the reply, Udella.

Edit: For the OP- I also forgot to mention police checks. Mine cost $50, the price varies depending on what province you live in and where you go, I imagine.

The worst part about the ROC fee is that there's no delaying it at all. You have to file and pay it within the 90 days or you're out of status. At with AOS there was some leeway with delaying it if funds are tight!

Removing Conditions

Sent package to VSC - 8/12/11

NOA1 - 8/16/11

Biometrics - 9/14/11

Thanks for the heads up! ROC is 2 years after you get your first green card, right? Gonna go do some research...

Right - you get a 2 yr conditional GC after your marriage and then 90 days prior to the 2 yr anniversary of that card, you apply to ROC. The ROC thread is helpful.

It sneaks up on you quickly - the first 2 yrs go by so quickly!
